Activity note: Hotel check in from 4:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Program Registration: After you have your room assignment, come over to the Road Scholar table to register with the program staff and get your welcome packet containing your name-tag, up-to-date schedule that reflects any last-minute changes, and other important information. If you arrive late, please ask for your packet when you check in.

Dinner: In a private banquet room at the historic Jekyll Island Club Hotel, we’ll enjoy a salad, entrée, dessert, coffee, tea, water; other beverages available for purchase.

Evening: Orientation: The Group Leader will greet everyone with a warm welcome and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule and any changes, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer any questions you may have. We’ll also discuss arrangements for getting to/from the golf club, renting its clubs, and getting back to the hotel at the end of the day. Small group golf instruction typically involves 8-10 participants. Free time is reserved for your personal independent exploration. Please be aware that program activities, schedules, and personnel may need to change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding. Continue getting to know your fellow Road Scholars, settle in, and get a good night’s rest for the day ahead. Golf Instruction, Play 18 Holes, Local Reptiles

Activity note: Standing and swinging clubs during morning instruction; golf carts provided for afternoon play. The number of courses we will be able to play each day depends on tournaments or other club activities at the time of the program.

Breakfast: In the Club’s Victorian-era Grand Dining Room, the extensive breakfast buffet offers choices such as a daily special dish, scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, potatoes, hot and cold cereals, grits, fresh fruit, yogurt, homemade pastries, toast, bagels, muffins, juices, coffee, tea, water.

Morning: We’ll take a passenger van to the Jekyll Island Golf Club, where we’ll begin group instruction. Today, our golf pros will cover putting, full swing, and set-up fundamentals, along with course management skills.

Lunch: At the golf course restaurant, we’ll order from the menu with a choice of salads and sandwiches, iced tea, soft drink, water.

Afternoon: Put what you’ve learned into practice and play 18 holes of golf. Jekyll Island has been a golf destination since 1898, when Jekyll Island Club members added the first course on the island. Today, there are 63 holes of golf on three 18-hole courses: Pine Lakes (renovated in 2002), Indian Mound (named after the oyster shell middens left by native peoples), and the popular Oleander (on the grounds of the 34th oldest course in the U.S. There is also a 9-hole course. Your pros will assign the course available for afternoon play.

Dinner: At the Club.

Evening: A hands-on encounter with native reptiles and amphibians. Learn about the biology and ecological roles of our local "herps", and enjoy the chance to handle snakes, turtles, alligators, and more in a safe environment.

Breakfast: Grand Dining Room buffet.

Morning: During this morning’s group instruction, we’ll concentrate on the short game, chipping and pitching, and full swing mechanics.

Lunch: This meal has been excluded from the program cost. Enjoy lunch on your own at the various dining and restaurant options you have at your disposal on Jekyll Island.

Afternoon: Put what you’ve learned into practice and play 18 holes of golf.

Dinner: At the Club.

Evening: Sea Turtles use the Golden Isles beaches for nesting. Learn more about this threatened species and how to help them survive

Morning: Our instructors will cover bunker shots and drivers/fairway woods during our group instruction session.

Lunch: At the golf course restaurant.

Afternoon: Free time. Take this opportunity for personal independent exploration to see and do what interests you most. Please refer to the list of Free Time Opportunities. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions and give directions. You might like a leisurely walk to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, to the historic district, or visit the island’s pristine beaches and nature reserves.

Dinner: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions and give directions.

Evening: At leisure. Take advantage of the many opportunities for entertainment, sightseeing, or just relaxing on beautiful Jekyll Island.

Morning: Our instructors will provide video swing analysis using V1 computer software and will also conduct a question and answer session.

Lunch: At the golf course restaurant.

Afternoon: Play a final round of 18 holes.

Dinner: At the Club. Share your favorite experiences, enjoy the camaraderie of new Road Scholar friends, and prepare for departure after our final session in the morning.

Evening: Sit back and relax as a local entertainer performs beach music, shagging music and much more.
