Meet the Fleet: Our Trio of Antarctic Vessels

While sharing a similar design, each of our three new ships brings its own unique character to your learning adventure.

The Greg Mortimer

Named for Aurora Expeditions’ founder, this is the pioneering vessel that started it all. As the first passenger ship to feature the revolutionary X-BOW® design, it set a new standard for comfortable and efficient polar exploration.

The Sylvia Earle

A floating ambassador for the planet, this ship honors the legendary marine biologist Dr. Sylvia Earle. It features a dedicated Science Center and public decks named after six other leading women in conservation, inspiring a deep connection to the natural world.

The Douglas Mawson

The newest ship in the fleet, the Douglas Mawson is named for the Australian geologist and explorer. It continues the legacy of its fellow ships, offering the latest in sustainable technology and comfort for discovering the world’s most remote regions.

Frequently Asked Questions

To help you prepare for your learning adventure, here is some essential information for exploring the White Continent.

Our primary mode of exploration is by Zodiac, a durable inflatable boat that is perfect for navigating icy waters and making landings on remote shores. You’ll have the opportunity to get off the ship for excursions twice a day, weather and conditions permitting.

Shipboard attire is informal and casual. For shore excursions, dressing in layers is key. We recommend waterproof outer layers, thermal underwear, wool socks and insulated gloves. Don’t forget sunglasses and sunscreen, as the sun’s reflection off the snow can be intense.

To help you pack light, you're proved with a complimentary 3-in-1 polar expedition jacket that is yours to keep, as well as a pair of insulated, waterproof Muck boots to use for the duration of your voyage.

The voltage onboard is 220V; there is a universal outlet that can accommodate various plug configurations.
