If you love mountain scenery and learning about a wide range of topics...
Montreat Conference Center — a contraction of the words “Mountain Retreat” — rests within a narrow valley and is an idyllic getaway to the quiet atmosphere and natural beauty of Appalachia. At Montreat, Road Scholars can enjoy a wide variety of learning adventures, including an active experience playing pickleball and programs operating at a relaxed pace that delve into literature, art and music. The invigorating retreat and its historic Assembly Inn are the perfect setting to discover an exciting and diverse array of topics with Road Scholar’s renowned experts in the classroom and in the field.
If you’d like to explore the wonders of Yosemite National Park...
The Episcopal Conference Center Oakhurst (ECCO) is located just 12 miles from the south entrance to Yosemite, and it serves as an excellent home base for Road Scholars who want to experience this awe-inspiring national park. Learning adventures based at this retreat center include hiking programs as well as experiences in capturing the beauty of Yosemite through painting and photography. After a return from the park, Road Scholars can enjoy acres of forest and even a potential mule deer sighting.
If you’d like to immerse yourself in art and nature...
The Hidden Valley Institute is located in California’s Carmel Valley which has a history of notable residents including John Steinbeck, Ansel Adams and Michael Nesmith, yet it retains its casual atmosphere. The Hidden Valley Music Seminars serve as a training center for young talents in music, theater, dance and opera, as well as an international hub for learning. It is here that Road Scholars can learn more about the arts or travel a brief distance to continue making new discoveries in Monterey.
If you’d like a rustic place to take a break from it all...
The Land of Medicine Buddha is a retreat center in a beautiful redwood forest in California that offers Road Scholars a space to relax and connect to their spiritual inner being. Cell service is limited, so although there is a phone for public use, it’s the perfect place for Road Scholars to disconnect with the outside world and reconnect with themselves through health and wellness-focused learning adventures.
