About the Ship

The Perfect Vessel

With room for 350 passengers, the Aegean Odyssey has the amenities and comfort of an ocean liner, but with an intimate feel and nimbleness to navigate the smaller, harder-to-reach ports.

The ship’s cabins and common areas offer the perfect level of comfort for Road Scholar participants. Take advantage of the ship’s variety of outside seating at mealtimes, browse the classics or engage your shipmates in a game of chess in the ship’s well-stocked library, and deepen your understanding of the world as you attend expert-led lectures. In short, you and your fellow Road Scholars won’t miss a minute of the adventure, even at sea!

Learning Adventures At Your Own Pace

Choose your preferred Activity Level, active or relaxed, perfect for customizing your world odyssey to fit your preferred pace.

Parthenon, Athens, Greece
A Typical Day at an Active Pace

Today we climb the Acropolis! Start your day with some fresh air and a healthy breakfast out on the Lido Deck. Then, our local expert will lead us on the 20-minute uphill walk to the Acropolis. We’ll spend the morning learning about these famed ancient temples before heading to Plaka, a historical neighborhood just below the Acropolis, for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, follow your local expert on a walking exploration of the New Acropolis Museum, full of incredible artifacts and remains, before boarding a shuttle bus back to the ship.

A Typical Day at a Relaxed Pace

Begin your morning with a tasty buffet breakfast in the Terrace Café. Then, set out on an expert-led motorcoach ride around the base of the Acropolis, full of picture-perfect views of this ancient temple, before heading to the New Acropolis Museum for an expert-led visit and lecture. Located at the foot of the Acropolis, the museum offers more incredible views of the remains as part of your exploration. The afternoon is at your leisure. You can board a shuttle bus and return to the ship for lunch and afternoon tea at the Charleston Lounge. Or, remain in the city for the afternoon and enjoy lunch at a local café before boarding a shuttle bus back to the ship for this evening’s lecture on Greek culture prior to dinner.

Life Onboard - The Acropolis
Explore Your Interests

Want to explore on your own? Shuttle buses will be operating between the ship and the Plaka throughout the day, so you have plenty of freedom to explore Athens independently before returning to the ship for a lecture on Greek culture before sharing dinner with your fellow Road Scholars.

“There is a weightless item that won’t fit in my suitcase: the connections I’ve made on this journey. We spent a long time together, strangers from all parts of the United States in search of a better understanding of the world we live in, and in the process developed friendships that will continue to enrich us.”
