Lunch: Explore local fare on your own in Seefeld.

Afternoon: For those that arrive in time, we will meet our Group Leader and take a short orientation walk around this delightful village. Orientation: 5:00 PM The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. We will review COVID-19 protocols and will adhere to local COVID-19 guidelines and requirements throughout the program. Our knowledgeable Group Leader and local experts will conduct the educational program including hikes and walking field trips. Breakfasts will offer typical European-style choices such as breads, cheeses, cold cuts, yogurt, fruit, cereals, juice, milk, coffee, tea, water. Other included meals will feature local cuisine. Water is included in the program cost at all meals. Periods in the schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Activity note: Getting on/off public bus, riding approx. 5 minutes, over 3 miles. Up to 7 miles of walking for 4 hours on natural trails. Total ascent of 900 feet.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Start hiking from the hotel to Wildmoos. The trail continues to a splendid viewpoint on to Brunschkopf (4500ft) overlooking Karwendel Nature Park and Ziller Valley Glacier Peaks. From there the trail leads us down to Lake Mösern (4300 feet).

Lunch: At a local restaurant.

Afternoon: After lunch, we will enjoy looks into the Inn Valley and get a glance of its peace bell. From there a public bus takes us back to Seefeld.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Bavarian Lakes, Gorge of the Spirits, & Mittenwald, Germany

Activity note: Getting on/off public bus, ride about 15 minutes. Getting on/off train, ride up to 40 minutes. Up to 6 miles of walking for 4 hours natural trails and on iron bridges. Total ascent 950 feet.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: After breakfast, we will meet in the hotel lobby and set out on foot to the local train station. Depart by train to Mittenwald followed by a stroll through this picturesque Bavarian town. A short ride on a local bus takes us to Lake Ferchensee from where we start our hike at the foot of Wetterstein Mountains. An ascent of about 1.5 hours leads us to Ederkanzel a Bavarian Alpine hut from where we enjoy views into the Leutasch Valley, Karwendel Nature Park and the Bavarian Alpine forelands.

Lunch: At a local restaurant.

Afternoon: After lunch, a half hour steep descent through the forest will take us to the entrance of the Gorge of Spirits. From there we start a through hike of about 1.5 hours overlooking the watercourse of Leutascher Ache. The trail is built into the walls of the Gorge and leads over spectacular bridges. We will hike back to Mittenwald along the Leutascher Ache and take the train back to Seefeld.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Innsbruck, Austria

Activity note: Up to 2 miles of walking for 2 hours on cobblestones and through town.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: We will walk to the local train station and depart by regional train (approx. 40 minutes) to Innsbruck (1883 feet). Enjoy an expert-led city excursion through Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol.

Lunch: At a local restaurant in the old town of Innsbruck.

Afternoon: Take this opportunity for personal independent exploration to see and do what interests you most. Please refer to the list of Free Time Opportunities, which can be found in the first Information Packet or on the Road Scholar website. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions and give directions. You may want to visit the Tyrolean State Museum. Return to Seefeld at your own pace.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Zirbenweg (Swiss Scotch Pine Trail)

Activity note: Up to 6 miles of walking for 4 hours on natural trails through forests. Total ascent 650 feet, total descent 2,300 feet.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: We will transfer by private motorcoach to Igls (Patscherkofel cable car; 40 minutes). From the top station of Patscherkofel cable car (6000 feet) enjoy views into the Glacier Valley of Stubai, the Karwendel Nature Park and the City of Innsbruck. Enjoy a three hour hike above the tree line through the Swiss Scotch Pine Area (Zirben Trees) via Boscheben chalet, from where we enjoy views of the Tuxer Alps and have time for refreshment. The trail without significant changes in altitude runs along the edge of the forest at approx. 6000 feet to the Tulfein Alm.

Lunch: Light lunch at a local Alm.

Afternoon: We will begin our descent to Halsmarter (4500 feet) by chairlift and then continue on a well maintained forest trail down to the village of Tulfes by foot (2800 feet). We will then take a cable car to the bottom station and from there, transfer by private motorcoach to Seefeld.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Circular Hike Gaistal Valley

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach, riding about 30 miles, approx. 1.5 hours driving time. Up to 5 miles of hiking for 3.5 hours on natural trails. Ascending 800 feet, descending 800 feet.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: We will board our private motorcoach and travel to the Nature Reserve Area "Almparadies Gaistal" (30 minutes). We will hike on well-maintained hiking trails, 300 feet above the mountain stream Leutascher Ache, to reach the Gaistalalm.

Lunch: Light lunch at local hut/alm.

Afternoon: Enjoy fantastic views of the mountain range Mieminger Kette and Wetterstein Gebirge below the nearby Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak as we begin a gentle descent on "Ganghoferweg" through the Almparadies Gaistal - back to the bus station Leutasch Gaistal Salzbach. Transfer back to Seefeld by private coach.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure. Prepare for check-out and transfer in the morning.

Transfer from Seefeld to St. Ulrich, Italy, in the Dolomites

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach, riding approx. 87 miles, for about 2 hours. Up to 2 miles of walking for 1.5 hours on cobblestones and through town.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and depart by private coach to St. Ulrich (4060 feet) in the Dolomites; entering Italy through the Brennero pass. We will stop in the medieval town of Bressanone/Brixen and visit the historic town center and the 12th-century Duomo with its 14th-century frescoes guided by a local art historian. Learn about the history of this ancient transit route over the Alps from Germany to Italy.

Lunch: At a local restaurant.

Afternoon: We will continue on our journey and arrive in St. Ulrich. After checking in to the hotel, we will enjoy an expert-led lecture at the Museum de Gherdeina about Ladin culture and language, Art and Geology.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Col Raiser, Dolomites, Italy

Activity note: Getting on/off motorcoach. Up to 8 miles of walking for 5 hours on natural trails, mostly gentle descending. Ascending 430 feet, descending 2230 feet.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: After breakfast, we will board our motorcoach and transfer to the valley station of the Col Raiser Cable Car where we will head up to the mountain station (6900 feet). Today, enjoy a lovely hike with views into the heart of the Dolomites. Hike along the valley trail through alpine pine forests to a lake in the Cisles Valley. Through the pine forests, the trail leads to the Regensburger Hut and to Juac Hut, which is situated on a picturesque plateau.

Lunch: At a local inn.

Afternoon: Continue the hike to the hamlet Daunei, a small mountain village, and continue further down to Wolkenstein. From there, the circular hike leads us back to the valley station of the Col Raiser railway in the St. Christina municipality. We will board our motorcoach and return to St. Ulrich.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Activity note: Getting on/off a motorcoach, riding about 1.5 hours, over 22 miles. Hiking approximately 10 miles for 6 hours on gentle mountain trails. Ascending 820 feet and descending 1640 feet.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: After breakfast, we will board our motorcoach and ride to the Sellajoch where we reach the Dolomite Pass (7350 feet) from where we start the hike ascending the trail along Langkofel on to Sandro Pertini hut. The mountain trail leads us to the Alm of Sasso Plato, where we enjoy a delicious local meal prepared by organic farmers.

Lunch: At the Sasso Plato Alm.

Afternoon: After lunch we go on an uphill walk before we start our descent to Monte Pana from where we take a private motorcoach back to St. Ulrich.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Activity note: Up to 2 miles of walking through town and in the museum.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Enjoy a free morning in St. Ulrich. In the late morning, we take our motorcoach (approx. 1.2 hours) to Bolzano (859 feet), the capital of South Tyrol. Visit the Archaeological Museum, known for its 5000-year-old mummy Ötzi, who was found in the glaciers on the Austrian - Italian border. Enjoy the museum at your own pace.

Lunch: Light meal at a local establishment.

Afternoon: After the museum visit we will take a short stroll through the old town. After that we take a private motorcoach back to St. Ulrich.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Seceda, Dolomites, Italy

Activity note: Getting on/off a cable car. circular hike about 6 miles, approximately 5 hours; natural trails, totaling approx. 1,820 feet ascents and descents.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: We will start with a short walk from our hotel to the Seceda cable car valley station. We will take the cable car from St. Ulrich to the middle station Furnes and up to the Pana Scharte (8’202 ft) where we will enjoy a magnificent view. We will descend to the Troier hut, continue to the Daniel hut and hike down steep grassy mountainsides to the Cuca-Sattel (elevation 7’060 feet).

Lunch: Lunch at Corona hut.

Afternoon: We will climb up to the Monte Pic (Pitschberg)(elevation 7’760 feet) and enjoy the wonderful views of the Gardena valley. Hiking back downhill to the Cuca-Sattel and back uphill passing by the Sofie hut to the cable car mountain station. Return to the hotel by motorcoach. We will enjoy a performance by some local entertainers before dinner.

Dinner: Farewell dinner at the hotel.

Evening: At leisure. Prepare for check-out and transfer in the morning.

A Last Glance of the Dolomites, hike to St. Jakob's Church

Activity note: Up to 4 miles of hiking for 2.5 hours. Ascent and descent approx. 1,049 feet.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: After breakfast, we will check-out of hotel and leave our luggage while we take a hike to the hamlet of St.Jakob. From there, hike up to the church in the woods with magnificent views of the Dolomites, where we will enjoy a picnic. Our descent back to St. Ulrich concludes our hiking experience.

Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch during the hike.

Afternoon: We will descend back to St. Ulrich, and this concludes our hiking experience. Transfer by private motorcoach to Innsbruck, Austria (approx. 2.5 hours) and check in to the hotel. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure.

Dinner: Explore local fare on your own.

Evening: At leisure.
