Following the 1966 release of Pets Sounds, Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson embarked on an even more ambitious, groundbreaking project which was to be called SMiLE. The album, which was designed around the group's landmark hit “Good Vibrations,” explored a variety of topics that expressed Wilson’s deepest, most personal thoughts on his life, using highly imaginative and complex production methods and musical sounds in addition to Wilson’s patented multi-voice vocal arrangements. Wilson’s increasing mental instability and other factors resulted in SMiLE being shelved in 1967, but when he finally consented to releasing it in 2004, it became one of the most admired and revolutionary albums of the rock era. Join our California-based Grammy-nominated expert, Cary Ginell, for a musical journey filled with sensational sounds as he uncovers this lesser known work from Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.
