Now you can embark on a once-in-a-lifetime online adventure that brings you to Canada, Greenland, Norway and the North Pole, all from the comfort of your own home! Board a virtual Zodiak for up-close explorations of glaciers and fjords, search for Arctic wildlife like the polar bear and walrus, and enjoy a field trip to a Soviet weather station. Throughout your four-day online adventure, you’ll also enjoy lectures and presentations on the Arctic environment, Inuit culture, a history of the Norse, wildlife and much more. Along the way, get to know your fellow Road Scholars during this epic adventure and finish your journey at the literal Top of the World — the North Pole.

  • Explore the North-West Passage during a virtual Zodiac cruise to Beechey Island, Cambridge, Transition and Johansen Bays, and thrill in the monumental cliffs of Stanford Fjord on Baffin Island.
  • Board your virtual Zodiac to admire the glacier at Eqip Sermia and then visit the town of Ilulissat with its world-famous Ice Fjord.
  • Search for wildlife like polar bears, walrus, arctic foxes and reindeer during a virtual expedition in Svalbard, enjoy a field trip to the Soviet weather station at Tikhaya Buhta and delight as your virtual adventure concludes at the North Pole.

You’ll enjoy 2-3 hours of daily instruction, discussion and/or field trips, which includes sufficient breaks throughout the program. Please review the daily itinerary for start and end times to ensure you won’t miss a minute of this live experience. This online program is through Zoom, an easy-to-use web video service that includes closed captioning. All you need is an Internet connection and your computer. We’ll provide a how-to guide to make sure you’ll have a hassle-free experience. This session is offered live only and will not be available on demand.

Miko Golachowski is a biologist with a lifelong passion for natural history and exploration. He has been fascinated by cold regions since childhood and spent his first winter as a scientist at the Polish Antarctic Station “Henryk Arctowski.” He eventually became base commander of the 32nd Polish Antarctic Expedition. Since 2005, he has shared knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm with groups on Antarctic expedition cruises. He loves writing about ecology, nature conservation, history, and spending time with his daughter and a motley crew of creatures.

Jamie Watts is a marine ecologist and expedition leader who spends as much time as possible in the Earth’s most spectacular marine ecosystems. After two years overwintering with the British Antarctic Survey on South Georgia from 2004, he has been full-time on expedition ships across the globe including 249 expedition voyages. Jamie has dived and free-dived from under the North Pole ice to the Antarctic. He lectures on marine and polar wildlife, global-scale ecology, human ecological footprints, and has written for magazines and websites worldwide.
