  • Depending on your skill, learn the basics of Western Riding, from tack and groundwork and neck reining, to English riding style and bareback lessons.
  • Enjoy Cowboy life with Dutch oven meals, a barn dance and a farrier demonstration with your new horse and human friends.

General Notes

The Retreat Difference: This unique, often basic and no-frills experience at a Road Scholar Retreat includes opportunities for early morning exercise, interaction with the local community for insight into local life, an authentic farm-to-table or locally sourced meal, a live performance or event, and a single room to yourself for only $100 more (for many programs).

Melissa Voyles is right at home on the ranch and in the saddle. Passionate about riding horses since she was young, Melissa became an instructor with The Certified Horsemanship Association in both English and Western riding. Following the horse and ranch career path, she started out as a part-time wrangler at the Triangle Y Ranch and worked her way up to ranch director. She loves sharing her passion of horses and horsemanship skills with others. Melissa also holds a BS in animal science.
