1
Check-in, Registration, Orientation, Welcome Dinner

Activity note: Check-in from 3:30 p.m. Fruit basket available at the registration table.

Afternoon: Program Registration: 3:30 p.m. After you have your room assignment, join us at the Road Scholar table to register with the program staff and get your welcome packet containing the up-to-date schedule that reflects any changes, other important information, and to confirm the time and location of the Orientation session. If you arrive late, please ask for your packet when you check in. Remember to bring your name-tag (sent previously). Orientation: 4:30 p.m. The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. Indicated times are approximate. Periods in the schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions, and will often be available to accompany informal excursions or activities. You are welcome to join if you like, with any associated costs on your own. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner: In the Trout Lodge dining room, enjoy a buffet with selections from two soups, salad bar, two entrees, assorted side dishes, and dessert bar. Drink options include coffee, tea, water, juice, soda and milk.

Evening: Explore Trout Lodge and Camp Lakewood and learn about the week's activities. Afterward, introduce yourself and get to know one another better.

Aquatic Ecology, Horse Ride, Canoeing, Nature Center, Hike

Activity note: Horseback riding requires long pants and closed-toe shoes. Bring shoes that can get wet for water ecology.

Breakfast: The hot buffet breakfast varies daily, including sausage or bacon omelet, biscuits and gravy, bacon, pancakes, or French toast. Fresh fruit, breads, cereals and pastries are always available. Beverages include coffee, tea, milk, and juices.

Morning: "What's in and around the water" – a hands-on lesson on aquatic ecology at our very own cold springs. Then, we’ll learn how to tack horses and enjoy an educational arena ride at the Equestrian Barn.

Lunch: The hot buffet lunch includes a soup and salad bar as well as dessert. Food options vary; beverages include coffee, tea, milk, water, juices, and soda.

Afternoon: With our canoe instructor, we’ll head out for a paddle on Sunnen Lake.

Dinner: In the dining room.

Evening: Meet some new animal friends at the Nature Center tonight. We’ll learn about habitats and diet, and even get to pet the rabbits, snakes, or lizards. Once darkness falls, we’ll embark on a night hike led by Trout Lodge specialists.

Hiking, Caledonia, Alpine Tower & Swing

Activity note: Driving about 36 miles, approximately 50 minutes to Elephant Rocks State Park. Terrain choice of paved walkway or route over rocks. Elephant Rocks State Park and Alpine Tower/Swing require closed-toe shoes. Wear comfortable clothes.

Breakfast: In the dining room.

Morning: We’ll go on an expert-led hike to outside our Lead Mine where we will explore different types of rocks by digging for our own during this geology expedition.

Lunch: We’ll ride to Elephant Rocks State Park for our afternoon activity. Upon our arrival, we’ll sit down for a picnic lunch.

Afternoon: There are amazing natural geological wonders all around Elephant Rocks State Park, the site of this afternoon’s hike. The park gets its name from its boulders that resemble pink circus elephants. Two routes through the park are available: one on a paved walkway, the other up and over the rocks. On the way back, we’ll stop to explore Caledonia. This small town is known for antiques, hand-dipped ice cream, and candy from the general store.

Dinner: In the dining room.

Evening: We’ll head to our very own Alpine Tower and Alpine Swing for an exciting evening of fun. Alpine Tower: We'll climb over obstacles including "Lucky Charms,” hanging logs, giant logs, and missing link as we scale this 50-foot, hourglass-shaped climbing structure. Alpine Swing: You'll wear Put on a harness and helmet, and you'll be get hooked hook onto a cable that will pulled into the air by your friends and family on the ground. When you're hanging approximately 40 feet in the air and ready to swing, you'll let go of a release cord. You'll fly through the air, "swinging" back and forth over a distance of about 60 feet. We’ll end the night zipping through the night sky on our Moonlight Zip Line.

Ranch Activities, Free Time, Campfire

Activity note: Getting on/off a horse; riding about 45 minutes. Horseback rides require long pants and closed-toe shoes. Fishing poles are provided for free time.

Breakfast: In the dining room.

Morning: We’ll start out the day learning the way of the rancher. Ride a horse on a 45-minute trail ride, then learn to lasso a cow and brand a piece of leather to take home.

Lunch: In the dining room.

Afternoon: Free time. This block of time has been set aside for your personal independent exploration to see and do what interests you most. Please refer to the list of Free Time Opportunities. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions.

Dinner: In the dining room.

Evening: We’ll gather around the campfire for a relaxing night of camaraderie. Play games, tell stories and jokes, and make delicious s’mores this evening.

Float Trip, Evening Movie

Activity note: Getting on/off a float. Water shoes – preferably with a heel strap – are encouraged. Wear clothes that can get wet.

Breakfast: In the dining room.

Morning: We’ll head off on a float trip led by Bass River Resorts. In the case of low water conditions on the river, we’ll instead go on an exciting boating excursion on our very own 360-acre lake that boasts seven coves, Goose Island, and dolomite bluffs.

Lunch: Picnic lunch on the beach.

Afternoon: We’ll finish our float trip and return to the lodge to relax and dry off. Spend the rest of the afternoon however you please!

Dinner: In the dining room.

Evening: After a long day in the sun, relax and enjoy a movie and popcorn.

6
Hayride, Program Concludes

Activity note: Getting on/off a wagon. Check-out 11:30 a.m. Please check with the Group Leader if you'd like to stay longer after the program concludes.

Morning: We’ll wind down the week with a hayride through the horse pastures. Don't forget to take pictures of your new friends!

Lunch: In the dining room. A boxed lunch is available for an additional fee for those that wish to leave as soon as class the hayride is over. This concludes our program.

Afternoon: Everyone is welcome to stay for the afternoon to use the Trout Lodge facilities and engage in exciting activities we might not have had to the chance to enjoy earlier. Try your hand at the archery course or take a relaxing banana boat ride. If you are returning home, safe travels. If you are staying on independently, have a wonderful time. If you are transferring to another Road Scholar program, detailed instructions are included in your Information Packet for that program.
