The Delmarva Peninsula is a wildlife and nature photographer’s paradise bordered by the Chesapeake Bay on the west and the Atlantic Ocean on the east. Bring along your camera and your passion for the natural world to create beautiful images of this astounding environment and to be inspired by efforts to conserve it. Workshop instructors rank at the highest levels in the field and are eager to impart their knowledge to help others. Students will explore the practical and theoretical aspects of image creation and take advantage of full days of workshops, field sessions, photo critiques and more.

  • Learn guidelines from a seasoned pro on how to best capture wildlife images in the field with Chincoteague Bay Field Station.
  • Visit Assateague National Seashore to photograph its impressive list of avian inhabitants, including waterfowl, osprey, eagles, herons and egrets, among others.
  • See the wild ponies of Chincoteague while learning about the traditions of saltwater cowboys and their annual wild pony round-up and channel swim.

General Notes

The Retreat Difference: This unique, often basic and no-frills experience at a Road Scholar Retreat includes opportunities for early morning exercise, interaction with the local community for insight into local life, an authentic farm-to-table or locally sourced meal, a live performance or event, and a value-priced single room. Program is for intermediate to advanced skill levels and participants comfortable with their DSLR. Please note that this program will not feature morning exercise or a live performance to allow for more time for morning and evening photography. Housekeeping not available. Due to the nature of this program, listening devices are not available.

Nikhil Bahl
Nikhil Bahl is a professional photographer, educator, author, lecturer and workshop instructor residing in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. His goal is to inspire people to appreciate the splendor of nature by transforming the mundane into the exciting through contemplative and artistic interpretation. While his primary aim is to create art with his photographs, he also strives to document the natural world with an eye toward conservation and education. This has led him to volunteer his time and photography skills with the National Park Service and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Nikhil's work has been published in a number of print and electronic media. His fine art prints have been widely exhibited in the Washington metropolitan area, and are part of many private collections. Nikhil leads several nature photography workshops and educational explorations in the U.S. and his instruction is focused on interpretation, expression and developing personal vision.
