At a Glance

Is this wild and mystical river of Nine Dragons and fire-breathing Naga being tamed? And, what are the consequences of that taming? The lecture will reveal facts, fables and folklore of the "Mother of all Waters," the Mekong. The political economy of the six riparian countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion will be considered and the cauldron of conflict in the South China Sea will be explored. Join Tony Zola to learn about the Mekong River, including its political economy, cultures, commerce and its role in promoting regional integration, from an American who has lived and worked in the Mekong River Basin for more than 50 years.
