Located between Italy’s northern Alpine region and the Italian Riviera, Liguria and Piedmont are regions known for their sumptuous cuisine, rich history and breathtaking vistas. Experience the very best of northern Italy during this live, online learning adventure that brings the spirit of Liguria and Piedmont to your home! On virtual field trips, explore the rolling green hills of Piedmont and the maritime history of Genoa, both designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Enjoy virtual experiences to explore a local food market, marvel in the ecosystems of Portofino National Park and history of the Cinque Terre. Get to know your fellow Road Scholars as you take in lectures on the landscapes and geology of Piedmont, the history of Genoese nobles and the importance of fishing in the Italian Riviera.

You’ll enjoy 2-3 hours of daily instruction, discussion and/or field trips, which includes sufficient breaks throughout the program. Please review the daily itinerary for start and end times to ensure you won’t miss a minute of this live experience. This online program is through Zoom, an easy-to-use web video service that includes closed captioning. All you need is an Internet connection and your computer. We’ll provide a how-to guide to make sure you’ll have a hassle-free experience. This session is offered live only and will not be available on demand.

Francesca Assandri was born and raised in Genoa where she still lives. She has a degree in Geology and is a National Tourist Guide, licensed to lead hiking in Liguria and Piedmont. She has collaborated on projects for the Genoa Aquarium, 5terre Park, Portofino Park, and Beigua Park. Francesca has also worked on offshore and onshore oil and gas rigs in Texas, Croatia, Serbia, and Albania! In addition to group leading, she has been a lecturer, itinerary developer, and an environmental educator.
