Shawnee on Delaware

Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort

Afternoon: Program Registration: After you have your room assignment, join us at the Road Scholar table to register with the program staff and get your welcome packet containing the up-to-date schedule that reflects any changes, other important information, and to confirm the time and location of the Orientation session. If you arrive late, please ask for your packet when you check in. Remember to bring your name-tag (sent previously) with you. Orientation: 5:00 p.m. The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the schedule and any changes, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. This is a Road Scholar Retreats program. Our programming at Retreat locations includes opportunities for light morning exercise, interaction with members of the local community, a farm-to-table meal, and evening entertainment. We will begin each day with an invigorating stretch session. Our hands-on watercolor workshops will be directed by Toni Chaplin, a professional artist with national awards in her body of work. We will have designated work spaces for the entire program and will lock the room at night for safety and security. We will complete multiple paintings on the subject matter assigned by our instructor and display our work during a closing art show. Periods in the schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner: 6:00 p.m. at the Inn, we’ll have a healthy buffet meal with salads and entrées (one of which will be vegetarian), plus vegetables, rice, potatoes, or pasta, fresh fruit, and beverage choices of coffee, tea (iced or hot), water; other beverages available for purchase.

Evening: Meet the Artist. We'll meet our watercolor instructor, Toni Chaplin, learn about her experiences as an artist and teacher, and review the materials list. Bring all your supplies to this class. The studio will be open afterwards if you would like to paint on your own.

Watercolor Buildings Instruction, Development, Concert
Shawnee on Delaware
B,L,D
Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort

Breakfast: Inn buffet.

Morning: We will begin with a morning stretch and then explore "Watercolor Buildings" - By its nature, watercolor is willful and notoriously difficult to master. It blooms like a flower on paper, like a plant growing beyond the confines of the sidewalk. So, to render buildings in watercolor, much less to master painting a straight line with it, is quite a challenge.

Lunch: Buffet lunch at the Inn features deli meats and cheeses platter, assorted breads, homemade soup, vegetables and fruit, salads and beverages.

Afternoon: Watercolor Class: Discussion and individual consultations with our instructor will provide individual instruction & critique that will focus on your current building project.

Dinner: Inn buffet. Tonight's Farm to Table meal will include a golf cart tour out to our Shawnee Farm and a presentation by our Executive Chef.

Evening: The Shawnee Institute concert series, open to the public, presents a variety of performing groups throughout the year. In tonight’s concert, we’ll hear local musicians. This is a great opportunity for community engagement with the audience member and performers!
