Select and draw the design you want to hook on an 18" square of linen rug foundation from the template you have chosen. Push your creativity while working in the primitive style by adding colorful, eclectic, whimsical flare embellishments by using various textures, hooking and finishing techniques. You may choose from unique primitive rug hooking pattern designs, a variety of hand drawn designs and many antique patterns.

Afternoon: Program Registration, 3:00 p.m. After you have your room assignment, come to the Road Scholar table to register with the program staff and get your welcome packet containing your name-tag, up-to-date schedule that reflects any last-minute changes, and other important information. If you arrive late, this packet will be available at the Orientation meeting held at 6:30 p.m. at the Holt Lodge, first floor meeting room.

Dinner: Served in Lakeview Dining Hall from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Evening: Orientation, 6:30 p.m. The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. Periods in the daily schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Breakfast: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 7:30 AM - 8:15 AM.

Morning: We will begin with introductions, then learn from a short instructor-led lecture and demonstration on the basic tools and skills for rug hooking. Types of materials used and the pattern will be discussed. We will select our materials and begin our project.

Lunch: Served at Lakeview dining hall from 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Returning to class we will spend the afternoon practicing techniques and beginning the project for the week.

Dinner: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Evening: Evening entertainment at 6:30 PM.

Activity note: Evening Open Studio will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Breakfast: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 7:30-8:15 a.m.

Morning: Starting our class this morning the instructor will talk about the preparation of materials, types of dyes and textures to incorporate into our projects. We will share our progress with each other and continue with our design.

Lunch: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Afternoon will find us continuing our design with concentration on the proper techniques.

Dinner: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Evening: At leisure. Our classes will be open this evening for open studio sessions with our instructors.

Morning: We will come to class and continue the work on the project design throughout the morning

Lunch: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 12:00-1:00 a.m.

Afternoon: Our instructor will critique our progress and discuss the importance of different fabrics incorporated in each design and techniques while we continue our rug hooking.

Dinner: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Evening: Free time! Enjoy a relaxing stroll around the lake or sit and enjoy the view.

Breakfast: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 7:15-8:30 a.m.

Morning: With the progress of the week, our rugs are becoming works of art. We will spend the morning with the guidance of our instructor working on the project.

Lunch: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Afternoon: We will continue rug hooking and in the late afternoon, work as a class to put together our display for the evening class tour.

Dinner: We will eat dinner in the side dining room as a group using this time to discuss the accomplishments and challenges of the week.

Evening: Following dinner we will do a walk through the class rooms to see what participants accommplished during the week. Instructors will give a brief wrap up of their class week.

Morning: As we put the finishing touches on our project, our instructor will offer further ideas and techniques we can take home for future rug hooking projects.

Lunch: Served in Lakeview dining hall at 11:30 a.m. The program ends after lunch.
