Activity note: Hotel check-in from 3:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Program Registration. 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. After you have your room assignment, join us at the Road Scholar table in the lobby to register with the program staff and get your welcome packet containing the up-to-date schedule that reflects any changes, other important information, and to confirm the time and location of the Orientation session. If you arrive late, please ask for your packet when you check in. Remember to bring your name-tag (sent previously). Afterwards, we’ll gather for a welcome reception on the hotel veranda including complimentary beer, wine, soft drinks, canapes, and aperitifs. This will be an excellent opportunity to meet your fellow participants, and share stories of Road Scholar adventures past!

Dinner: In the hotel parlor, we’ll have a buffet meal with lemonade, tea (iced and hot), coffee, water included; other beverages available for purchase. We will dine as a group at tables reserved for Road Scholar.

Evening: Orientation. The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. The included Gate Pass will provide entry to any of Chautauqua's renowned summer programs, including morning lectures and evening entertainment. Shuttles will be available throughout the week to all group activities. Periods in the schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions. Then, we’ll enjoy evening entertainment in the Chautauqua Amphitheater. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Breakfast: In the hotel dining room, the breakfast buffet offers choices such as pancakes, waffles, eggs and omelets, breakfast meats, fruits, yogurts, cereals, breads, pastries.

Morning: We’ll meet in the Presbyterian House Chapel located adjacent to the hotel for a class with our Road Scholar instructor who specializes in the opera productions we will be attending this week. One of the most important elements of Chautauqua’s ongoing educational program is the lecture series presented in the Amphitheater. Each week’s presentations by leading experts focus on a unified weeklong theme. All are welcome to attend.

Lunch: At the hotel, we’ll have a buffet lunch with lemonade, iced tea, coffee, water included; other beverages available for purchase. Alternatively, you may want to take a boxed lunch if you would like to attend another lecture or activity during the lunch period.

Afternoon: The Interfaith Lecture series occurs in the Hall of Philosophy, sponsored by the Chautauqua Department of Religion. On the other hand, you may also choose from a variety of lectures, classes, and recreational activities according to personal preference. Historic narrated bus rides around Chautauqua are available daily (see your Group Leader to sign up), or you might like to explore the Chautauqua campus on your own, see what’s on at a gallery, curl up with a book, or simply relax.

Dinner: Hotel buffet.

Evening: We’ll make our way to the Amphitheater for an evening performance.

Breakfast: Hotel buffet.

Morning: We’ll meet again in the Presbyterian House Chapel with our Road Scholar instructor, we will settle in for a lecture on "Tosca," this evening’s opera performance. Regrouping in the Amphitheater, we’ll settle in for a lecture.

Lunch: Hotel buffet. You may take a boxed lunch if you would like to attend another lecture or activity during the lunch period.

Afternoon: We'll attend the Interfaith Lecture Series that occurs in the Hall of Philosophy, sponsored by the Chautauqua Department of Religion. Alternatively, you may want to choose from a variety of other lectures, classes, and recreational activities according to personal preference. Gathering in the late afternoon for an Operalogue in Smith Wilkes Hall, we will get all of the colorful details about "Tosca" from the general and artistic director, Steven Osgood. We’ll also hear excerpts from the opera performed by Chautauqua Opera Young Artists.

Dinner: Hotel buffet. We’ll dine early this evening in order to be on time for the opera.

Evening: We’ll settle in for the Chautauqua Opera Company's performance of "Tosca" at Norton Hall.

Breakfast: Hotel buffet.

Morning: We’ll meet in the Presbyterian House Chapel for a special Road Scholar lecture focusing on this evening's opera, "Thumbprint." Back in the Amphitheater, we’ll hear an address from an expert on the week's theme.

Lunch: Hotel buffet, or take a boxed lunch if you would like to attend another lecture during the lunch period.

Afternoon: In Elizabeth S. Lenna Hall, we’ll gather for an Operlogue, during which we will learn from Steven Osgood, the general and artistic director the Chautauqua Opera Company. We’ll also hear excerpts from the opera performed by Chautauqua Opera Young Artists. Next, we’ll head over to Norton Hall for the Chautauqua Opera Company's performance of "Thumbprint."

Dinner: Hotel buffet.

Evening: We’ll then attend a performance in the Amphitheater. If you wish to attend an alternative performance at your own cost, feel free to do so. Consult your Group Leader for suggestions.

Breakfast: Hotel buffet.

Morning: We’ll meet in the Presbyterian House Chapel with our Road Scholar instructor for a class, during which we will wrangle with the third opera in our series, "The Mother of Us All." After the morning lecture, enjoy some time to explore the grounds of Chautauqua independently or choose from a variety of lectures, classes, and recreational activities.

Lunch: Hotel buffet.

Afternoon: Feel free to choose from the variety of lectures and/or performances this afternoon including the chamber music series at Lenna Hall. Later in the afternoon, we’ll gather for an Operalogue about Virgil Thomson and Gertrude Stein's "The Mother of Us All." Steven Osgood, the general artistic director of the Chautauqua Opera Company, will provide details and we’ll hear excerpts from the opera performed by Chautauqua Opera Young Artists.

Dinner: Hotel buffet.

Evening: We’ll return to the Amphitheater for the Chautauqua Opera Company's performance of "The Mother of Us All." We’ll then return to the hotel. Prepare for check-out and departures in the morning.

Breakfast: Hotel buffet. You may pick up a pre-ordered box lunch before departure. This concludes our program.
