Arrival Lisbon – Portugal, Orientation, Welcome Dinner
Lisbon
D
Hotel Mundial

Activity note: Hotel check-in available from 2:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Upon arrival at the hotel, check in and take some time to unpack and relax before orientation. Orientation: The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. Participants will be divided into smaller groups for many activities and itineraries will vary. Daily schedules and exact times of all activities will be confirmed at the welcome meeting. Unless specified otherwise, transportation will be provided primarily by motorcoach and require going up/down a few steps when getting on/off. Unless otherwise specified, our Group Leader will lead all field trips providing commentary throughout. Note that dinners in Portugal and Spain are typically eaten later than in other countries, thereby leaving little time in the evenings after meals. Periods in the daily schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner: At the hotel, we’ll enjoy a welcome dinner comprised of a 3-course plated meal, plus water and complimentary glass of wine; other beverages available for purchase.

Evening: At leisure. Continue getting to know your fellow Road Scholars, settle in, and get a good night’s rest for the day ahead.

Later, we’ll board our motorcoach and drive north of Lisbon to visit the rural property of Companhia das Lezírias, a traditional Portuguese farmstead where olive and cork trees grow, wine is produced, and the renowned Lusitano horse is raised. Here, we’ll learn from a local expert about rural life relating to these specific aspects.

Lunch: At the Companhia das Lezírias farmstead, we’ll be treated to a typical Portuguese lunch.

Afternoon: Afterwards we’ll drive back to Lisbon where our local expert will lead a walking field trip through the charming historic quarters of the old city.
