From the welcoming torch of the Statue of Liberty to the dazzling lights of Times Square, the Big Apple is like no other city on earth. Experience quintessential New York City from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building, amid the neon glow of Broadway and by zipping around this bustling metropolis like the locals do — by subway! The history, arts and electric energy of Manhattan come alive on a learning adventure showcasing expert-led excursions, behind-the-scenes access and plenty of free time every day to make independent discoveries and enjoy meals on your own. Venture to iconic sites, explore the architecture of distinct neighborhoods on foot and take in the unparalleled splendor of Central Park and the Museum Mile.

Walk up to two miles at a time and up to eight miles a day on uneven pavement. Public transportation throughout.
Our Flex learning adventures offer more flexible schedules than our traditional programs, with ample independent time and several meals on your own. Enjoy the camaraderie of the group while also getting time to explore on your own.

General Notes

Program includes substantial free time to explore the city and offers more meals on your own. Suggestions for free-time activities are provided in preparatory materials, and your Group Leader will be happy to provide suggestions for self-directed excursions. John Kriskiewicz, a native New Yorker, is an architectural historian with a professional degree in architecture from Pratt University. He teaches several courses concerning the architectural and planning history of New York City at Parsons School of Design and The Cooper Union. He is the director of history and architecture programs for Discover New York with Kitt Garrett, Inc. John also does research for architectural firms and has written the introduction to the book, "Manhattan Skyscrapers.”
