Activity note: Hotel check-in is at 3:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Transfer to the hotel for check in. At 5:00 p.m. meet the group in the hotel lobby for the Welcome Orientation. The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the program theme, the up-to-date Daily Schedule and any changes, discuss safety guidelines, emergency procedures, roles and responsibilities, and answer any questions you may have. Indicated times are approximate. Program activities, schedules, and personnel may need to change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner: Welcome dinner at the hotel. Water is included in the program cost at all meals. Unless otherwise noted, all dinners are a three course set menu.

Activity note: Up to 3.5 miles of walking for 3 hours in the city and through the museum.

Breakfast: At the hotel. On this program, breakfasts will offer a typical European style breakfast buffet with breads, cheeses, cold-cuts, yogurt, fruit, cereals, juice, milk, coffee, tea and water.

Morning: Enjoy an expert-led walking excursion through Bergen. Situated on the west coast of Norway, Bergen is Norway’s second-largest city with over 225,000 inhabitants. It is estimated that the city was founded in 1070. Bryggen, the old wharf of Bergen, is a reminder of the town’s importance as part of the Hanseatic League’s trading empire from the 14th to the mid-16th century. After discovering the Hanseatic Quarters, take the Fløibanen funicular up to Mount Fløyen and enjoy the view over Bergen. Take in a lecture about the city and its locals and walk back down to Bergen and the hotel.

Lunch: Picnic en route.

Afternoon: Take a coach to the south of Bergen to explore the home of the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. The house was turned into a museum in 1928. Edvard Grieg called his home 'Troldhaugen' which combines the Norwegian words for troll (trold) and haug (hilly), because there is a nearby valley called "The Valley of the Trolls." After the museum, transfer by coach back to the hotel.

Hiking in Bergen

Activity note: Up to 3 miles of walking for 2.5 hours on mountain paths. These paths can be muddy at times. Walking for 2 hours in the city.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Take a coach to the valley station and take a gondola up to Mount Ulriken, the highest mountain in Bergen. Take in the gorgeous views of the city and bay. Enjoy a scenic hike on Mount Ulriken with a field lecture. Take the gondola down to Bergen after the hike. Transfer back to the hotel.

Lunch: Picnic en route.

Afternoon: From the hotel, enjoy an easy walk on the Nordnes Peninsula. The view from the peninsula, over the town to the mountain of Floyen, is characterized by the contrast between the green woodland, blue sea, and the mainly white-painted wooden houses.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Transfer to Flåm, Biking Beautiful Fjord Landscapes

Activity note: Up to 11.5 miles of biking over inclines and declines.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Transfer by coach to the Bergen train station and then take a train to Myrdal. On this beautiful train ride, you will pass raging rivers, dramatic forests, and stunning mountains; the typical Norwegien landscapes!

Lunch: Explore local fare on your own on the train.

Afternoon: Upon arrival in Myrdal, the luggage will be transported to the hotel in Flåm. Hop on a mountain bike for a spectacular, expert-led bike ride. Enjoy a beautiful view of typical Norwegian fjord landscapes, riding by waterfalls and mountains. The first part of the bike ride is steep and everyone needs to go slowly. The bike ride ends at the hotel. Check-in and relax.

Flåm, Kayaking, Zodiac Ride on the Nærøyfjord

Activity note: Kayaking for approximately 3 hours. The zodiac boat ride is approximately 2 hours and the zodiac boat seats 12 people.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Walk to the shore and meet the kayaking guide. After preparations, enjoy a kayaking trip along the shore where one can often see eagles. The waters are a deep blue and you will feel serene as you float inside the fjord. Finish the kayaking trip in Flåm.

Lunch: Explore local fare on your own in Flåm.

Afternoon: Enjoy a zodiac boat ride through the Nærøyfjord, which is one of the two fjords on the UNESCO World Heritage list. There will be stops along the way to learn about history and local stories.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Transfer to Lofthus, Boat Ride on the Spectacular Nærøyfjord

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: After breakfast, take a boat to the town of Gudvangen. This spectacular boat ride goes through the narrow Nærøyfjord, passing farms high on the mountain, waterfalls, and small villages.

Lunch: At the Stalheim hotel with its great panoramic views.

Afternoon: From the Stalheim hotel, take a coach to the family owned Ullensvang Hotel and check-in. Enjoy some free time before dinner.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Waterfall Walk

Activity note: Up to 6 miles of walking for approximately 5 hours on trails.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Meet your local guide at the hotel. Walk along the fruit trail and to the river valley where you can see the waterfalls Opo and Skrikjo. We cross a bridge and go back to the village on the other side of the river. On our way, we will be able to visit the old medieval Ullensvang church in Lofthus. Listen to a lecture about the local research station for fruits and enjoy a wonderful view to the other side side of the fjord and the Folgefonn Glacier.

Lunch: Picnic lunch along the way.

Afternoon: Walk back towards the hotel. Along the way, taste local coffee, tea, and applecakes.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Kayaking along the Hardangerfjord

Activity note: Up to 3 hours of kayaking.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Transfer by coach to Eidfjord, where we will begin our kayaking excursion. Kayak along the eastern part of Hardangerfjord.

Lunch: Picnic lunch along the way.

Afternoon: Return via kayak to Eidfjord and afterwards transfer back to the hotel by coach.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.

Transfer to Bergen, Glacier Hike

Activity note: Up to 3 miles of walking for 4 hours on the glacier. Participants do not need prior experience in glacier hiking. The group will be divided into two smaller groups according to fitness level and there will stops along the way.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Check out of the hotel and take a coach to Jondal. At Jondal, in the glacier center, take in a lecture. After the lecture, drive on a sepentine road up to the glacier and equip yourself with crampons and helmets and venture into the blue ice.

Lunch: Picnic lunch on the glacier.

Afternoon: Continue the glacier hike. Afterwards, take the coach and drive to Bergen. Check in to the hotel.

Dinner: Farewell dinner at the hotel.

Evening: At leisure.
