Registration, reception, group dinner, and introductions. Make a kite tonight to fly tomorrow at the park.

Afternoon: Hosted reception at 5:00 pm; welcome and discussion of agenda 5:30-6:00 pm.

Dinner: Dinner in our meeting room at 6:00 pm.

Evening: Introductions of all attendees, short snapshot of Seattle and constructing kites to fly tomorrow.

Exploring Seattle--see lots of boats and salmon as you learn about the Chittenden Locks; a picnic and kite-flying at Gasworks Park; behind the scenes at Safeco Field; an evening lecture on the geology of Mt. Rainier.

Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel's restaurant. Enjoy a tasty breakfast from among many options. Choices include fresh fruit, juices, hot and cold cereal, breakfast meats, eggs, pancakes, waffles, yogurt, coffee/decaf/tea, milk, water.

Morning: Learn about the history and operation of the Chittenden Locks, an engineering historical site, where a Corps of Engineers interpreter will lecture on the design and construction of the Locks, then lead a walk of the botanical gardens, Locks and fish ladder. Spawning salmon struggle upstream, returning to within 50' of where they were hatched to lay their eggs and die. Commercial and pleasure vessels pass between the Lake Washington Ship Canal and Puget Sound.

Lunch: Lunch is a picnic at Gasworks Park on Lake Union, under a shelter or in the sun. Fly kites from Kite Hill and admire its distinctive sundial. Watch seaplanes fly overhead and sailboats ply Lake Union. Bring your camera for the best city skyline shots of downtown Seattle.

Afternoon: Go behind the scenes at Safeco Field, the Seattle Mariners' baseball park. See the press box, locker rooms and other usually-restricted areas.

Dinner: Dinner in our meeting room this evening..

Evening: Illustrated lecture by a local geologist on the beauty and the volcanic potential of Mt. Rainier. Mud flows from Mt. Rainier have re-shaped western Washington topography and it isn't finished yet. Our speaker is a published writer with an extensive knowledge of this area.

On a visit to dramatic and beautiful Mt. Rainier stop for a gentle hike at Longmire. Walk to the base of stunning Narada Falls. At Paradise, walk through fields of wildflowers, see the historic inn and new visitor center.

Activity note: Optional flat walks in scenic areas; optional hiking in meadows with some elevation gain.

Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel restaurant.

Morning: Ride a chartered, restroom equipped coach to Mt. Rainier National Park. Stop on the way to choose a tasty lunch from a deli.

Lunch: Enter Mt. Rainier National Park and ride to Longmire to learn about the area's early settlers and enjoy a gentle, scenic walk, "The Trail of the Shadows". Stop at beautiful Narada Falls; walk the steep trail to bottom of the falls and up again if you wish. Unpack your picnic lunch at the Visitor Center at Paradise, elevation 5500 feet.

Afternoon: Walk trails in the wildflower-kissed meadows at Paradise on your own and choose from a number of hikes.Browse the Visitor Center's interpretive displays on the natural and human history of the mountain and its breathtaking surrounding peaks. Look through its excellent gift shops. Visit Paradise Inn, a vintage National Park lodge.

Dinner: We'll stop at a family-style restaurant for a tasty dinner on the way home.

Evening: Relax after your busy day.

Cruise across Puget Sound on a ferry. Visit the new Suquamish Tribal Museum and Chief Seattle's grave. See Giant Pacific Octopus at the Seattle Aquarium.

Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel restaurant.

Morning: Jump onto a school bus and ride a Washington State ferry to Bainbridge Island, 30 minutes across Puget Sound from Seattle. From the ferry see expansive views, including Mt. Rainier to the south and Mt. Baker to the north, both part of the Cascade Range. Drive the length of the island and cross the Agate Pass Bridge to visit the new Suquamish Tribal Museum and to see the burial site of Chief Seattle, for whom the city is named.

Lunch: Lunch on your own in one of the delightful cafes in the town of Winslow. Suggestions will be offered. Don't miss Mora, the gourmet ice cream shop!

Afternoon: Upon our return to Seattle, get eye-to-eye with otters, octopuses and lots of other marine life at the excellent Seattle Aquarium. Learn what lives underneath that water you just crossed on the ferry! On the next pier is the Seattle Great Wheel--talk about a view! The ride's on you but if you wish we'll provide bus information for your return to the hotel.

Dinner: The remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy dinner and have some quiet time with your family this evening.

Travel east of Seattle to hike near Snoqualmie Falls. Lunch at Remlinger Farms. Go behind the scenes at Seattle's historic Pike Place Market. Enjoy a pizza party tonight to end our program.

Morning: Drive east of Seattle to amazing Snoqualmie Falls and walk a gentle trail through a fragrant forest.

Lunch: Lunch at the restaurant at Remlinger Farms, a busy working farm.

Afternoon: Learn about the 108-year history and day-to-day operations of the lively, bustling Pike Place Market. Talk with farmers and artists. You might even catch a fish!

Dinner: It's a pizza party tonight to celebrate this week together with your new friends.

Evening: We'll have live entertainment after dinner this evening.

View a video detailing the construction of the 405' Space Needle. Ride the monorail to the Seattle Center and the glass-fronted elevator to the 360-degree observation deck.

Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel restaurant.

Morning: View a video of the 1962 construction of the Space Needle before we ride the monorail to the Seattle Center and the glass-fronted elevator up to the observation deck of the landmark structure. Stay as long as you like, spotting many of the places we've visited this busy week in the upper left-hand corner. Our program concludes at this point. You may linger longer or return to the hotel with the group. Other activities in and around the Seattle Center include the new Chihuly Garden & Glass exhibit, the Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum, the Pacific Science Center and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center.
