Check-In, Registration, Orientation, Welcome Dinner

Afternoon: Check-in available from 4:00 p.m. Program Registration: After you have your room assignment, come over to the Road Scholar table outside our meeting room beginning at 4:00 p.m. to register with the program staff and get your welcome packet containing your name-tag, up-to-date schedule that reflects any last-minute changes, and other important information. If you arrive late, please ask for your packet when you check in.

Dinner: At the resort to include a chef's choice menu provided in the resort's restaurant.

Evening: Orientation: The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the program theme, the up-to-date Daily Schedule and any changes, discuss safety guidelines, emergency procedures including contact numbers for key staff, roles and responsibilities, and answer any questions you may have. Please be aware that program activities, schedules, and personnel may need to change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Water Aerobics, Science of Pleasure, Happiness, Self Massage

Activity note: Bring a swimsuit and sandals for the water aerobics class, towels provided. For self massage class: if you prefer, bring your own mat, but mats will be available onsite. Wear loose comfortable clothing. Childlike Playfulness class requires you to bring a pillow down from your room.

Breakfast: Prior to breakfast, attend an invigorating water aerobics class. Then enjoy breakfast in our meeting space prior to our morning classes to include seasonal fresh fruit, house-made granola, milk, raisins, pecans, yogurt, breakfast breads, pastry, butter, preserves, fresh orange juice, coffee, tea, and water.

Morning: Begin your first morning with a class on "The Neuroscience of Pleasure and Love," provided by OHSU neuroscientist Dr. Larry Sherman, Professor in the Division of Neuroscience at ONPRC, and also a Professor in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology, in the Neuroscience Graduate Program and the Program in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the OHSU School of Medicine. This will be followed by "Your Brain on Happiness," provided by Wendy Mitchell M.A., of Women's Health Coaching. She will also discuss how to keep from using food to try to satiate hungers of the heart. Their discussions will help to provide some understanding of our own selves and tools to help us reflect on our own experience and use what we have learned to bring about personal growth.

Lunch: At the resort to include a chef's choice menu provided in the resort's restaurant.

Afternoon: Enjoy some time to relax and visit with your new found friends or visit the resort's spa. Free time will run from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. If you wish to partake in the Spa's services at an additional fee, you must book these in advance of arrival to assure there is staffing available. Contact the Spa at 844-432-4748 or 509-427-2529. Email requests may be made to waterleaf@destinationhotels.com. Visit their website at www.destinationhotels.com/skamania/spa/spa-services. The resort also offers a swimming pool, Jacuzzis and saunas, and outdoor hot tub with sun deck including an amazing view. There are additional fees for golfing and their zip line. After our free time we will attend a self-massage class to learn ways to reduce stress and relax our muscles. Followed by a short break, we will attend a class on childlike playfulness to re-ignite the child within.

Dinner: At the resort to include a chef's choice menu provided in the resort's restaurant.

Evening: Enjoy some free time to visit the resort's many amenities. Visit the spa, sauna or swimming pools, or take the evening to rest and reflect on the day. Curl up with a good book and just relax. Isn't that what its all about?!

Columbia Gorge Water Falls & Hike, Yoga, Wine Tasting

Activity note: Drive to Multnomah Falls and along gorge highway will be approximately 60 miles with a total driving time of 1.5 hours with frequent stops. Walks will be on some paved and some rocky uneven ground for no more than 2 miles for entire day. For beginning yoga class: if you prefer, bring your own mat, but mats will be available onsite. Wear loose comfortable clothing.

Breakfast: Attend a water aerobics class before breakfast, then enjoy breakfast at the resort to include a chef's choice menu provided in the resort's restaurant.

Morning: After breakfast we'll board a motorcoach to visit the spectacular Columbia Gorge and its famous landmark, Multnomah Falls. Multnomah Falls is the second-tallest year-round waterfall in the nation. The water drops 620 feet from its origin on Larch Mountain. With a local natural history expert, we will take several short walks to view amazing overlooks and stunning waterfalls under the forest canopy. Formed through millenniums of geologic events including the Ice Age Floods, learn how the gorge was formed and how it has impacted the natural and cultural history of the area.

Lunch: Along the way we will stop at an outdoor lunch spot to enjoy a boxed lunch to include a pre-selected sandwich, chips, cookie, fresh cut fruit and water.

Afternoon: Our exploration of the gorge will continue until mid afternoon. Following our gorge visit we will have a beginning yoga class. If you have your own yoga mat, please bring with you. Enjoy the relaxation.

Dinner: At the resort to include a chef's choice menu provided in the resort's restaurant.

Evening: A local wine expert will be our guide as she discusses Pacific NW wine varietals and the differences among wines. She will discuss the benefits of wine and show you how to taste like a pro!
