Activity note: Hotel check-in from 3:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Program Registration: After you have your room assignment, come over to the Road Scholar table in the hallway by the meeting room to register with the program staff and get your welcome packet containing your name-tag, up-to-date schedule that reflects any last-minute changes, and other important information. If you arrive late, please ask for your packet when you check in. Orientation: The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the program theme, the up-to-date Daily Schedule and any changes, discuss safety guidelines, emergency procedures including contact numbers for key staff, roles and responsibilities, and answer any questions you may have. Indicated times are approximate. Program activities, schedules, and personnel may need to change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding. We have set aside some free time in the schedule for your personal independent exploration. The Group Leader will often be available during free time to accompany informal excursions, activities, or meals that have been excluded from the program cost. You are welcome to join if you like, with any associated costs on your own. Because our programs are planned far in advance, game schedules were not available at the time of publication. It will be published on our website as soon as announced and will be included in preparatory materials sent following enrollment. All transportation will be provided by bus and all lectures will take place in our private meeting room in the hotel.

Dinner: In the hotel breakfast room, we will enjoy a tasty and nutritious catered meal with a salad and two side dishes, dessert and your choice of coffee (regular or decaf) or tea (iced or hot).

Evening: Spend time becoming better acquainted with participants and program staff. The rest of the evening is yours to continue making new friends or just to relax and prepare for the full day of activity ahead.

Activity note: Walk up to one mile to the stadium and climb stairs.

Breakfast: At the hotel, enjoy a meal including assorted cereals, oatmeal, breads, pastries, bagels, yogurt, and fresh fruit, plus coffee (regular/decaf), tea (hot/iced), water, and assorted fruit juice.

Morning: A retired baseball scout will share his wealth of experiences over the years. This is your opportunity to ask questions you have always wanted to ask. We will transfer to the stadium via bus.

Lunch: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like in at the stadium.

Afternoon: GAME 1: Apply your new knowledge from morning lecture as you watch a spring training baseball game. See a 1:05pm game featuring the Pittsburgh Pirates play the Tampa Bay Rays in Port Charlotte at Charlotte Park. Following the game, we will return to the hotel.

Dinner: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions and give directions. Please note there is a restaurant next door and also a bar & grill two or three blocks away.

Evening: Baseball DVD.

Baseball Expert Lecture, Baseball Presentation, Game

Activity note: Walk up to one mile to the stadium and climb stairs.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: In our private meeting room at the hotel we will be joined by Rich Westcott, longtime writer and author for the Philadelphia Phillies, who will share his experience. An annual tradition, spring training typically lasts for six weeks from mid February to just before Opening Day in early April. This series of practices and exhibition games give fans a sneak peek into the season while drawing them to the warmer locations where training occurs. Coffee Break, then next baseball presentation.

Lunch: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like in at the stadium.

Afternoon: GAME 2: Experience the Tampa Bay Rays again as they play the Pittsburgh Pirates at their spring training home in Bradenton at McKechnie Field.

Dinner: Dinner will be at an area restaurant and entrée choices will be available.

Evening: Enjoy a presentation by a Pittsburgh Pirate minor league player.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: Join us for a baseball expert presentation on "Best Managers in the AL & NL-Who are the top Managers in each division and the Wild Card? We will then take a short coffee break. We will begin our second baseball presentation of the morning, Hall of Fame Balloting - Your chance to voice (unofficially) and the results.

Lunch: On your own at restaurants within walking distance, or if you have a car or hire a taxi you can visit a large area of restaurants.

Afternoon: Take this opportunity for personal independent exploration to see and do what interests you most. Please refer to the list of Free Time Opportunities. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions and give directions.<

Dinner: Enjoy dinner on your own at the evening game in Sarasota.

Evening: GAME 3: See the Tampa Bay Rays again at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota. They will play the Baltimore Orioles at a 6:05pm game. After the game the bus will return participants to the hotel.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: From the hotel, we will take a field trip to Pirate City to watch a spring training session. Or a morning presentation?

Lunch: Will be in Clearwater at Brighthouse Field home to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Afternoon: GAME 4: See the Minnesota Twins play at Brighthouse Field in Clearwater, home to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Dinner: Will be at an area restaurant when we return to Sarasota.

Evening: Play baseball trivia conducted by the Group Leader and put your new knowledge to the test.

Morning: Join us as you are introduced to the history of the Negro League. Before Jackie Robinson played professional baseball, black athletes played in their own, separate leagues. From the early 1880’s, there were more than 200 all-black teams spread throughout the country. At its peak in the 1920’s, three separate negro leagues were established in the Northeast, the Southeast, and the Midwest. This concludes our program.
