Afternoon: Welcome and Orientation. Tour Adirondack Mountain Club’s Adirondak Loj and the Heart Lake Program Center property, and get an overview of the week's activities.

Dinner: Dinner at 6:15 p.m. in Adirondack Mountain Club’s ADK Loj.

Hike to Mt. Jo, Evening "History of Heart Lake" Presentation

Breakfast: Breakfast served buffet-style from 7:15 - 8:15 a.m.

Morning: 9:00 a.m. Begin hike around Heart Lake and up Mt. Jo. Mt. Jo is a small mountain located on our property that offers exceptional views of the High Peaks Wilderness Area. Although small in stature, Mt. Jo provides an excellent sample of what it’s like to climb some of the bigger mountains, as the trail passes through several distinct forest types on its way to the summit. The day will consist of an interpretive walk/talk focused on the topic of Forest Succession. Distance = 2.5 miles Elevation gain = 700'. Terrain = steep, rocky & rugged.

Lunch: Pack-out bag lunch at the summit.

Afternoon: Descend Mt. Jo via the Long Trail. Complete circumnavigation of Heart Lake. Distance = 1 mile. Elevation gain = none. Terrain = gentle, rolling. Option to continue hiking on property trails.

Dinner: Dinner at 6:15 p.m. in Adirondack Mountain Club’s ADK Loj.

Evening: 8:00p.m. "The History of Heart Lake" slideshow presentation.

Hike the Jay Range Trail, Evening Natural History Presentation

Breakfast: Breakfast served buffet-style from 7:15 - 8:15 a.m.

Morning: 9:00 a.m. Transport to Jay Range trailhead. The trail to the Jay Range passes through several mixed forests and ends at a magnificent overlook of the surrounding region including the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, Vermont's Green Mountains and Lake Champlain. Photographic opportunities abound. Distance = 8 miles round-trip. Elevation gain = 1,500'. Terrain = moderate to steep slopes.

Lunch: Pack-out bag lunch.

Afternoon: Return hike to Adirondak Loj.

Dinner: Dinner at 6:15 p.m. in Adirondack Mountain Club’s ADK Loj.

Evening: 8:00 p.m. "Natural History of the Adirondacks" slideshow presentation.

Hike at the Paul Smith’s VIC to Black & Long Ponds, Evening Presentation: Adirondack Flora & Fauna

Breakfast: Breakfast served buffet-style from 7:15 - 8:15 a.m.

Morning: 9:00 a.m. Transport to Paul Smith's Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC). 10:00 a.m. Hike at the Paul Smith’s VIC to Black & Long Ponds. This walk travels through well-maintained paths created especially for natural interpretation. The area offers an array of walks of various distances and times through a variety of ecosystems. Black Pond & Long Pond trail (5 miles) meanders through a mixed hardwood forest around two glacial ponds. Loons have been known to nest along the shoreline. This area has abundant wildlife including white-tailed deer, coyotes, black bears, and more. The terrain is flat to rolling and the tread of the trail is easy underfoot. There are numerous benches and lean-tos (shelters) serving as comfortable rest points, as well as many scenic photo opportunities.

Lunch: Pack-out bag lunch.

Afternoon: Continue walk through Paul Smith's Visitor Interpretive Center trails and view interior exhibits. 3:00 p.m. Return transport to Adirondak Loj 4:00 p.m. Free time

Dinner: Dinner at 6:15 p.m. in Adirondack Mountain Club’s ADK Loj.

Evening: 8:00 p.m. "Adirondack Flora & Fauna" slideshow presentation.

Hike to Mt. Van Hoevenberg, View Olympic Sports Complex, Evening Presentation: History of the Adirondack Park

Breakfast: Breakfast served buffet-style from 7:15 - 8:15 a.m.

Morning: 9:00 a.m. Begin hike to Mt, Van Hoevenberg. This hike is flat for about 1 mile as it passes through a large coniferous plantation and into a mature hardwood forest, at the end of which is a large beaver meadow. Climbing begins up a long, gradual ridgeline for about 1.5 miles and ascends 700' to a rocky overlook with expansive views of the surrounding mountains and forests.

Lunch: Pack-out bag lunch.

Afternoon: Descend over the north side of the mountain to view the bobsled run at the Olympic Sports Complex. Return via the same route.

Dinner: Dinner at 6:15 p.m. in Adirondack Mountain Club’s ADK Loj.

Evening: 8:00 p.m. "Celebration of Wildness – History of the Adirondack Park" slideshow presentation

Morning: 9:00 a.m. Visit the historic gravesite and homestead of abolitionist John Brown, and the Intervale Ski Jumping Complex. Closing debrief, review and summary session.

Lunch: Lunch is included at the ADK Loj. Program ends after lunch.
