Orientation: 7:00-8:30: Orientation and Introduction to Glimmerglass. In our meeting room, the Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. We will ride from the motel to the Glimmerglass Festival campus, a distance of less than half a mile along a busy highway. In addition to expert lectures just for our Road Scholar group, we will attend preview presentations on the Glimmerglass campus an hour before each performance. Periods in the schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding. Daniel Egan, our Group Leader and resident opera expert, will then give us an introduction to Glimmerglass and an overview of what’s to come during our program. Founded in 1975, not-for-profit Glimmerglass is a renowned professional opera company dedicated to presenting new productions each summer. The intimate setting of the Alice Busch Opera Theater and the pastoral setting on Otsego Lake enhance the experience. The company presents fully-staged productions including both opera and a work of American musical theater, all performed with full orchestra, professional cast, and no artificial sound amplification! Glimmerglass also offers a variety of other events and activities during the festival.
