Activity note: I will pick you up at the Quality Inn at 5:45 pm. We will have dinner at the Safari Club at the Days Inn. **The food options in Thermopolis are VERY limited. I will do what I can to accommodate you, but be aware that Thermopolis is a town of under 3,000 people and we do not have the same options as places in a city.

Afternoon: Check Into Hotel

Dinner: Participants will have dinner at the Safari Club Restaurant which is located in the Days Inn. I will pick up the participants at the Quality Inn at 5:45 pm on Sunday Evening.

Evening: Orientation from Dinner to? At this time we will hand out information about the week including the schedule.

Wyoming Dinosaur Center, Introduction to Preparation Lab

Activity note: The Museum Tour is about an hour to an hour and a half of walking through the museum. The Introduction of the Prep Lab is to explain the proper use of tools and when to use certain tools.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the Hotel

Morning: 8:30-11:45 Tour of the Wyoming Dinosaur Center Museum. We will take a coffee break to digest new information. After the break, we will start working on dinosaur bones in the lab. Everyone will begin with using a toothbrush and dental pick. After this technique has been mastered, we will start using the air-tools.

Lunch: Noon- 1 pm at the museum. Lunch consists of sandwiches, chips and fruit.

Afternoon: We will continue to work in the prep-lab on the bone that you were initially given. The bone that you are given on Monday, will be the bone that you will continue to work on throughout the remainder of the week. You will alternate between using the dental pick, air tools and the abrasion unit to clean the bone.

Dinner: Dinner at one of the restaurants in Thermopolis TBD. You will be picked up at the Hotel at 6 pm. Dinner will last approximately 1.5-2 hours, depending on how busy the restaurant is.

Evening: Free time after dinner

Prepping Bones in the Preparation Lab

Breakfast: Breakfast at the Hotel

Morning: We will continue to work in the Preparation lab for the entire day. The bones that you will be working on will primarily be from sauropod dinosaurs such as Apatosaurus, Diplodocus or Camarasaurus.

Lunch: Noon- 1 pm at the museum. Lunch consists of sandwiches, chips and fruit.

Afternoon: After lunch we will continue to work in the prep-lab. Everyone will have a chance to use all the different types of mechanical and chemical tools to remove the matrix from the bones.

Dinner: Dinner at one of the restaurants in Thermopolis TBD. You will be picked up from the hotel at 6 pm.

Wind River Canyon & Thermopolis Hot Springs

Activity note: The Wind River Canyon is a beautiful cut into a sequence of rocks all the way from the Proterozoic (more than 542 Million years ago) to the Triassic (220 Million years ago). The tilt of the beds collects rainwater which becomes the hot springs.

Breakfast: Breakfast at the Hotel

Morning: We will continue to work in the prep lab on the same bones from earlier in the week. If you finish cleaning your bone, we will have you start on a new one. We also may visit the Washakie Museum in Worland for a change in scenery.

Lunch: Noon - 1 pm Lunch at a local restaurant in Thermopolis.

Afternoon: After lunch, we will do a tour of the Wind River Canyon and Hot Springs State Park.

Dinner: Bill will pick you up from the hotel at 6 pm. He will bring you back to the museum for a presentation on Jimbo the Supersaurus and you will also eat dinner at the museum as well.

Evening: Free Time

We will continue to work in the Prep-Lab all day.

Morning: We will continue to work on our bones in the preparation lab.

Lunch: Noon- 1 pm at the museum. Lunch consists of sandwiches, chips and fruit.

Afternoon: After lunch we will continue to work on the bones in the prep lab.

Dinner: You will be picked up at 6 pm at the hotel. Dinner will be at one of the restaurants in town.

Certification Test, Molding & Casting, Program Concludes

Activity note: The Tour of Molding and Casting is to show participants how bones are replicated so as to preserve them from being handled alot while being studied.

Breakfast: Breakfast at Hotel

Morning: We will do a verbal certification test. This test is required in order to receive the basic lab certification certificate. We will also do a tour of the molding and casting building. This will give the participants an idea of how we make casts of our dinosaur bones for mounting and display.
