Dinner: The chef will carefully prepare buffet meals provided in our paneled dining room with splendid views of Sagamore Lake. Dinners typically include selections such as: a hot entry, like creamed chicken over biscuits, veggie lasagna, pot roast, spaghetti/meat balls, roasted turkey, stuffed pork loin, or ham; salads, along with several dressing choices; potatoes, rice or pasta; a vegetable choice; bread or rolls; milk or juice. Coffee & tea are always available Note: Sagamore's buffet line is bountiful and varied. If you do not think that you can choose the foods you need for your special diet from the buffet, please supplement with your own that may be stored for your convenience in our walk-in cooler and/or cooked in an available microwave. Beer and wine are available for purchase. Sagamore's water is pure and delicious. Please do not bring bottled water. Ours is superb.
Evening: ORIENTATION: Meet your instructors and learn their specialties. Then, sign up for the classes you want to take. Each time period will have a choice of sessions to join, whether you like singing, dancing, storytelling or playing an instrument. You can choose from several or specialize in your favorite. instruments/classes. You have the latitude to design your own course. Then, enjoy a concert by the instructors, and join in the fun!
Activity note: Storytelling session, followed by dulcimer-playing or dancing. Sessions on singing or storytelling. Evening square dance.
Breakfast: All breakfasts are served in the Vanderbilt dining hall, with lovely views of the sun rising over the mountains of the Blue Ridge Wilderness. Breakfast choices typically include selections such as: one hot entry, like blueberry pancakes, egg strata, french toast, or scrambled eggs; hot & cold cereal & milk; a variety of donuts, bagels & pastries; and several juices. Coffee, tea, and very pure Sagamore water are always available to guests.
Morning: PRESENTATION: Start the morning with a learning session: Adirondack Culture through Story and Song, led by Bill Smith, a traditional Adirondack guide, musician and raconteur. INSTRUCTION: Bill's session will be followed by a pair of sessions to choose from: 1) an introduction to the mountain dulcimer, one of the easiest and most beautiful of all folk instruments, with instructors Dick & Carmen Gilman; or 2) a introduction to mountain dance with professional dancer Trish Miller, where you'll learn some of the basic steps and descriptions of several varieties of mountain dancing, including contra dancing, square dancing, and waltzing.
Lunch: Lunch in the Sagamore dining hall. Lunches typically include selections such as: sandwich meats, cheeses, breads and condiments: a hot entree like macaroni & cheese or soup; various salads, like cole slaw or potato salad; cookies or granola bars; a variety of fresh fruits; milk and a variety of juices or lemonade. Coffee, tea & Sagamore water are always available.
Afternoon: INSTRUCTION: After lunch, options will include a session on chorus singing or a separate, concurrent session on the art of storytelling. Group singing is one of oldest and most important cultural ceremonies in human society, while storytelling is the way in which cultures around the world have shared their common history and passed down local traditions. Both of these skills are important parts of traditional Adirondack mountain culture.

Evening: ENTERTAINMENT: Tonight we'll have a square dance -- in Sagamore's historic barn, no less! -- where students can show-off some of the steps they've learned today.
Activity note: Storytelling session, followed by singing or fiddling lessons. Sessions on the guitar/banjo or songwriting. Evening camper's concert.
Breakfast: Breakfast in Sagamore Dining Hall.
Morning: PRESENTATION: After breakfast, enjoy a second full-group session on Adirondack Culture through Story and Song, this morning with folk singer/songwriter Dan Berggren. Another Adirondack native, Dan is a retired music professor from the State University of New York at Fredonia, and has been playing and telling stories about the Adirondack Mountains for most of his life. INSTRUCTION: Dan's session will be followed by a pair of optional sessions: one on chorus singing, the other on fiddling, with expert fiddler and teacher, John Kirk.
Lunch: Lunch in the Sagamore Dining Hall.
Afternoon: INSTRUCTION: This afternoon, you'll have the chance to learn the basics of the guitar and banjo, two related instruments that are staples of folk music, with Carmen, Trish & Bill. Or take a shot at learning to write your own songs, with help from Dan and John, who have written and recorded dozens and dozens of popular folk tunes between them.
Dinner: Dinner in Sagamore Dining Hall.
Evening: ENTERTAINMENT: Tonight we'll have a camper's concert, where students can demonstrate some of the steps, pieces, songs, or stories that they've learned. Here's your chance to show-off some of your new skills, and everyone gets a healthy round of applause.

Morning: ENTERTAINMENT: In the morning, we'll have one last sing- and play-along in Sagamore's famous, wood-paneled dining hall. Along with having hosted many famous personalities over the years, the Dining Hall at Sagamore is also an acoustical wonder, one that will help you to finish your program with a memorable flourish . . . at least until next year!
Lunch: At breakfast, guests will have the opportunity to pack lunches, either to take with them or to enjoy on Sagamore's grounds. Typical spreads consist of cold cuts, chips, fresh fruit, yogurt, cookies and drinks.
