Activity note: All activities take place at the hotel tonight.

Afternoon: ORIENTATION: Begins at 4:45pm in our private meeting room. We'll have an overview of the program ahead and review the up-to-date schedule, responsibilities, safety, guidelines, emergency procedures, and any other administrative issues. Please be aware that local circumstances may require adjusting program elements. In the event of changes we will notify you as quickly as possible. We appreciate your understanding. Introductions will take place during the orientation.

Dinner: Dinner will be catered in at the hotel at 6:00pm. We offer vegetarian and gluten free meals. If you only dine on fish, chicken or are lactose intolerant, please list that on your form also, if there is not enough space please call us directly so we can plan properly for your dining. Please fill out your Personal Information Form and return to us in a timely manner, to ensure a pleasant stay.

Evening: Getting to know you after dinner.

"Madama Butterfly," Opera House Behind the Scenes look.

Activity note: Walk behind the scenes involves walking at a moderate pace inside the opera house. There are elevators when we visit the costume shop on the second floor. Participants are dropped off in front of the opera house as close as possible and picked up as close as possible. Participants walk to the restaurant of their choice for lunch, many within one or two blocks of the opera house.

Breakfast: An enhanced continental breakfast is available.

Morning: PRESENTATION: Preview and introduction to "Madama Butterfly," with opera maven. FIELD TRIP: Go behind the scenes with a local expert at the Sarasota Opera House, including the costume shop.

Lunch: Lunch will be on your own in charming downtown Sarasota. (no transportation provided as you are already downtown) Several restaurants are one to two blocks away.

Afternoon: Explore on your own Sarasota's Downtown, architecture, art galleries, library and much more! Bus back to the hotel before dinner and opera.

Dinner: Dinner will be catered by the restaurant in our private room.

Evening: PERFORMANCE: Enjoy "Madama Butterfly," by Giacomo Puccini. From her little house on a hill overlooking the Nagasaki port, with a little boy at her side, Butterfly awaits the return of her beloved. Three years earlier, at the tender age of fifteen, she married Pinkerton, a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, and now he’s back to break her heart. Filled with Puccini’s most expansive melodies, Madama Butterfly is at the top of a very short list of most performed and best loved operas of all times.

Opera Intro, "Dialogues of the Carmelites"

Activity note: Minimal walking today, participants are dropped off in front of the opera house as close as possible and picked up as close as possible. After matinee walk to dinner in charming downtown Sarasota. Many restaurants within a two block area. (no transportation provided to dinner)

Breakfast: An enhanced continental breakfast is available.

Morning: PRESENTATION: Talkback on "Madama Butterfly." PRESENTATION: Preview and introduction of "Dialogues of the Carmelites."

Lunch: Lunch at hotel in our private meeting room.

Afternoon: PERFORMANCE: Experience "Dialogues of the Carmelites," by Francis Poulenc. During the French Revolution’s infamous "Reign of Terror," follow the story of Blanche de la Force as she dedicates her life to God’s service by joining a Carmelite order. As the story unfolds, the revolution threatens to destroy all that’s most sacred to the nuns. Blanche’s journey will lead her to learn the true meaning of faith.

Dinner: Walk to dinner on your own in charming downtown Sarasota. There are several restaurants within a one to two block radius of the opera house. Group leader will have menus for you to look at as many of the restaurants will require a reservation. Bus will pick up in front of the opera house at designated time.

Evening: Return to hotel after dinner and there will be an opportunity to view an opera DVD. Otherwise relax with new friends or turn in early.

Morning: PRESENTATION: Intro to opera and its voices. PRESENTATION: Talkback on "Dialogues of the Carmelites."

Lunch: Socialize over lunch with your fellow students at the hotel.

Afternoon: PRESENTATION: Preview and introduction of "The Love of Three Kings."

Dinner: Dinner will be at the hotel in our private meeting room.

Evening: PERFORMANCE: "The Love of Three Kings," by Italo Montemezzi. One of opera’s most passionate stories has music to match in this early 20th century masterpiece. Forced to marry Manfredo, the son of the man who conquered her country, Princess Fiora’s heart belongs to Avito. The two lovers have been meeting in secret, but they are playing a dangerous game, as the blind King Archibaldo grows suspicious.

Morning: PRESENTATION: Stage director from the Sarasota Opera House will share trade secrets from 8:45-10:15am. 10:30-11:30am Talkback on on "The Love of Three Kings." Check-out of hotel sleeping room by 12:00pm.

Lunch: A box lunch is offered at 11:30am on the last day to allow students who need to catch an early flight to take their lunch with them. Students who do not need to leave can enjoy their lunch in the meeting room or on the patio by the pool. Program ends after lunch. Thank you for coming and have a safe trip to your next destination!
