Afternoon: Check-in is from 3:30 - 5:00 in the retreat center lobby. A light snack and beverages will be available

Dinner: A delicious buffet style dinner will be served in the retreat center dining room

Evening: Join us in the main meeting room for Orientation led by Black Rock's Road Scholar Coordinator. The session ends with an ice cream sundae bar and a chance to to get acquainted with your fellow Road Scholars!

Breakfast: A delicious buffet style breakfast will served in the Retreat center dining room

Morning: We will start our exploration of area gardens with a visit to one of the world’s great gardens. Longwood Gardens' story is one of legacy, innovation, and stewardship. The Gardens are a living expression of all that the founder, Pierre S. du Pont, found inspiring, meaningful, and beautiful. From the intricate fountain systems to the meticulous gardens to the architectural grandeur, awe-inspiring discoveries await at every turn. Our day includes an introductory guided exploration of the gardens and plenty of free time to wander the many gardens, the conservatory, and the home of Pierre S. du Pont.

Lunch: Lunch on your own - enjoy your meal at the Terrace Cafe' or 1906 Fine Dining Room

Afternoon: Continued exploration of Longwood Gardens

Dinner: A delicious buffet style dinner will be served in the retreat center dining room

Evening: Learn more gardening tips and ideas from a local master gardener.

Breakfast: A delicious buffet style breakfast will be served in the Retreat center dining room

Morning: Renowned for its holdings of the Wyeth family of artists, the museum features galleries dedicated to the work of N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth. Explore the native wildflowers and plants of the Brandywine Conservancy on the grounds of the museum situated along the picturesque Brandywine River.

Lunch: Lunch on your own - purchase lunch at lovely Winterthur Cafeteria

Afternoon: Founded by Henry Francis du Pont, Winterthur (pronounced “winter-tour”) is the premier museum of American decorative arts, reflecting both early America and the du Pont family’s life here. Its 60-acre naturalistic garden is among the country’s best, and its research library serves scholars from around the world. Our trip includes both free time to explore the gardens and woods and the Winterthur Introductory tour

Dinner: Enjoy Amish hospitality firsthand while we eat a traditional Amish meal hosted by an Old Order Amish family

Evening: Relax at Black Rock Retreat

Morning: Popular local speaker Dr. Brinton Rutherford will lecture on Amish and Mennonite history and present-day beliefs.

Lunch: A delicious buffet style lunch will be served in the retreat center dining room

Afternoon: Enjoy an afternoon of free time. Explore more of Lancaster County on your own, enjoy the hiking trails on property, or relax in our beautiful Retreat Center. Transportation will be available for anyone interested in visiting the local yearly agricultural fair.

Dinner: A delicious buffet style dinner will be served in the retreat center dining room

Evening: Local farmers will answer questions about the Amish and selling produce. This will be followed by a chance to make your own soft pretzel (and eat it too!)

Landis Valley Museum, local countryside guided tour

Breakfast: A delicious buffet style breakfast will be served in the retreat center dining room

Morning: We continue our exploration of Lancaster County with a visit to Landis Valley Museum. Stroll though the 1700s and 1800s herb, vegetable & flower gardens and learn about their nationally recognized Heirloom Seed Project and take a backstage tour. Learn history and folklore about the importance of gardens to the lifestyle and health of the early communities

Lunch: A packed box lunch will be provided and eaten in one of the historical buildings at Landis Valley Museum

Afternoon: Continuing with our exploration of Lancaster County, we will take a Lancaster County guided excursion which may include stops at an Amish-Mennonite farm, Amish quilt shop, a bake shop and popular Kitchen Kettle Village

Dinner: A delicious buffet style dinner will be served in the retreat center dining room

Evening: Relax at Black Rock Retreat with a movie night featuring well-known documentary; The Amish: People of Preservation
