Adobe Lightroom Classic is staple for many photographers when it comes to processing and storing their digital photography. Get an introduction to this industry tool with professional photographer Mason Marsh who will offer you a look into the ins and outs of this fascinating application during a three-day online course. Learn the basics of operating Lightroom, as well as how to organize and store your photos. Each day, enjoy sessions dedicated to honing in on specific tools dedicated to masking, color and sharpening your photos. Daily homework assignments will allow you to practice what you have learned each day, while the online camaraderie of your fellow Road Scholars will ensure you have fun while you learn!

General Notes

Participants must install Adobe Lightroom Classic on their computer prior to the start of the program. You’ll enjoy 2-3 hours of daily instruction, discussion and/or field trips, which includes sufficient breaks throughout the program. This online program is through Zoom, an easy-to-use web video service that includes closed captioning. All you need is an Internet connection and your computer. We’ll provide a how-to guide to make sure you’ll have a hassle-free experience. This session is offered live only and will not be available on demand. Please review the daily itinerary for start and end times to ensure you won’t miss a minute of this live experience. All times are listed in the EASTERN time zone. If you live in a different time zone, please adjust your schedule accordingly.

Orientation & Introductions, Modules, Library

Activity note: Today’s session will start at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time and end at 4:00 p.m.

Afternoon: 1:00 p.m.: Orientation & Introductions (30 minutes). 1:30 p.m.: Lesson – A House of Many Rooms - Lightroom’s Floor Plan (45 minutes). Adobe Lightroom is like a house. In this introductory lesson, we will explore the many modules of Lightroom and learn how they work together. 2:15 p.m.: Break (15 minutes). 2:30 p.m.: Lesson – A Place for Everything and Everything in its Place (60 minutes). Building and maintaining an organized Lightroom library is the first step in a satisfying digital workflow. We will learn how to use Lightroom’s powerful tools to import, tag, keyword, and compartmentalize your digital images. 3:30 p.m.: Wrap-up & Homework Assignments (30 minutes).

Digital Asset Management, Synchronicity, Adjustments

Activity note: Today’s session will start at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time and end at 4:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Afternoon 1:00 p.m.: Lesson – Digital Asset Management (30 minutes). Adobe Lightroom is a powerful digital image management tool, but a thoughtful approach to safekeeping your image files is required. We will work together to build a sustainable digital asset management plan. 1:30 p.m.: Lesson – Synchronicity (30 minutes). Lightroom can run on multiple platforms. We will learn how to keep them all working together smoothly. 2:00 p.m.: Break (15 minutes). 2:15 p.m.: Lesson – Developing Your Images Part 1 – Global Adjustments (45 minutes). Lightroom’s Develop Module does a lot of your image processing heavy lifting. We will explore tools at your disposal for adjusting your images’ tones, details and geometry. 3:00 p.m.: Lesson – Developing Your Images Part 2 – Local Adjustments. Fine tune your image using Lightroom’s powerful masking tools. We’ll learn about Lightroom’s latest AI-powered tools and how they have changed the nature of image processing. 3:45 p.m.: Wrap-up & Homework Assignments (15 minutes).

Color & Sharpening Tools, Processing Jobs, Exporting

Activity note: Today’s session will start at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time and end at 4:00 p.m.

Afternoon: 1:00 p.m.: Lesson – Developing Your Images Part 3 - Color Tools (30 minutes). Much of Lightroom’s processing potential lies in the color tools. We will explore the different approaches to bringing out the best color in your images. 1:30 p.m.: Lesson – Developing Your Images Part 4 – Sharpening Tools (30 minutes). It takes a steady hand to bring the sharpness of your digital images to life. We will learn how to carefully manage details in Lightroom. 2:00 p.m.: Break (15 minutes). 2:15 p.m.: Lesson – All Together Now! - Start-to-Finish Processing Demos (45 minutes). Applying all we’ve learned, we’ll run through several image processing jobs from start to finish. 3:00 p.m.: Break (15 minutes). 3:15 p.m.: Lesson – Now What? Exporting Your Work. The final step in our Lightroom journey is the output of our finished images. We’ll explore the options for exporting our images. This concludes our program.
