This was my first Road Scholar Trip. I was not sure what to expect. We really did and saw so much, there is no way I could have created a comparable itinerary.
— Review left August 29, 2024
Great trip! The group of 17 was friendly and game to keep up with all the activities planned. Julie did a great job keeping us on track and answering our questions that mostly were answered in the information pack. People!! read the info packet!!! (she didn't say that, I did to myself). The guides for the excursions were really great-well organized, knowledgeable, of good humor.
While I would highly recommend this trip to others, I think a small boat tour of the same route we took would be great, eliminating the need to fly back to Juneau to take the boat to Haines.
— Review left August 1, 2024
This trip allowed me to experience a beautiful, historically important but isolated part of Alaska through a variety of activities that brought me close to the natural wonders, wildlife and history of the area. I especially enjoyed walking through the woods, canoeing to Mendenhall Glacier, being rafted down a rain-swollen river, and learning about the Tlingit culture. We had good weather- until our last day in Haines when heavy winds and rain forced the cancellation of the fast ferry back to Juneau. Julie, our guide, successfully got us booked on the State Ferry later that day- allowing us to arrive in Juneau, check into our hotel and get a little sleep before catching our flights home the next day.
All in all it was a fantastic trip.

I would observe those cruise ships passing buy, or jamming into crowded harbors with their hoards descending on a town and shake my head--they don't have a clue what they're missing. We saw and experienced Alaska up close and so much more personally.
— Review left July 31, 2024
Amazing trip! Our guide was so knowledgeable and experienced. I traveled solo for the first time and would not have been able to do half of the things we did had I planned it myself. It was a very well organized and fun experience. I honestly would do it again.
— Review left July 30, 2024
Sign up for this one if you want to see Alaska from many angles! Great variety of activities in incredible landscapes.
— Review left August 20, 2023
This trip was an amazing introduction to Alaska! The activity level kept us happily busy. Each of the individual tours were so interesting and well organized with friendly and knowledgeable leaders. We had amazing weather and saw all of the surrounding mountains and glaciers and, best of all, so many close up encounters with whales, sea lions, bald eagles and more. Our fellow group members were fun and interesting. We had a marvelous time!

My Favorite Road Scholar trip so far.

The Alaska kayak/hiking trip was a great way to see natural wonders of the inside passage and get vigorous outdoor exercise while doing it.
— Review left June 27, 2023
This was a very active and fantastic adventure
— Review left June 25, 2023
This trip to southeast Alaska is exceptional! My husband and I like active, outdoor adventures and enjoyed every part of this one, especially the NPS day-long catamaran trip in Glacier Bay. We saw Humpbacks, Orcas, a Coastal Brown Bear, 2 Wolves & 3 pups, Mountain Goats + baby, Sea Lions, Sea Otters, Puffins, Bald Eagles, birds etc! Plus so many majestic mountains and glaciers! The NPS Ranger leading the tour was also excellent. M&J

Eagles, humpback whales, steller sea lions, brown bear, puffins, orca, otters, ravens, porcupines, mountain goats, scoters, how could you ask for more?
— Review left August 28, 2022
I truly enjoyed this Alaskan adventure.
This trip is a fun way to visit Alaska for the first time.
Whales, Seals, Bears, Eagles and the Native Peoples ... all made the trip exciting.
The catamaran ships were very comfortable and made whale watching easy ... no "Sea Sickness" due to the stable nature of the boat!! Great Tour ...
— Review left July 4, 2022
A super-fab trip! You must be in shape, but the great thing, so are all the other participants and leaders. So much more to see and learn v. riding on a ship. Now that I'm home, Alaska seems like a dream I'll always remember, recalling the residents, the geography, culture, and history. My first, but not my last, Road Scholar trip!
— Review left July 23, 2019
This was our first Roadscholar trip and we very much enjoyed it. We wanted to see Alaska without going on a cruise and we think we made the right decision. The trip is centered in Southeast Alaska and included kayaking, hiking, museums, and several boat trips. We unequivocally recommend this trip.
— Review left July 14, 2019
This trip is a must for people who don't want to do an Alaskan cruise. We used so many modes of transportation that always included wildlife viewing and the time on the trail and water were unbeatable. While kayaking we saw hundreds of eagles and lots of whales nearby - a truly unique thrill. We learned about a culture we knew nothing about and again were amazed at how our country tried so hard to erase a vast tribe of spiritual, creative and self sufficient people. They still remain in villages and their artifacts and art are amazing. This trip had so many highlights!
— Review left June 30, 2019
This was a spirited 10 days of non-stop experiences. Our guide Kate Winslow was enthusiastic, organized and a wealth of information about the Last Frontier. Our local guides at each location were excellent and we felt comfortable challenging ourselves with sea kayaking, rafting and hiking. The trip gave us real insights into the Native American culture that is such a large part of the Alaska experience. I would recommend this trip to anyone with a sense of adventure and good physical health.
