My son,Dave, and I were in the March 27 -April 1, 2015, I thought that David Best, did an excellent job...We enjoyed his occasional 5 minutes on the geology and plants of Arizona. He showed true concern for his charges. The hotel was excellent. We were on this program last year also---the food has improved immeasurably....The service at the hotel dining area was also great.....Mack Harris

We got to see four great games and to hear a number of interesting presentations. What I had not expected was the in depth knowledge of many of the participants. We had some great baseball discussions about the Giants. I will be attending next year. Go Giants!!

A fantastic week baseball fans will definitely enjoy! The games and outings were wonderful, especially touring the inner workings of Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Lodging and meals were beyond first class. You will learn more than you ever thought about baseball during this fun filled week.

We enjoyed the speakers and games. The food was very poor. Lovely grounds at the Cottonwood Resort but it's in need of a face lift in the rooms. There is NOT a spa on the property, it moved, too bad, I was looking forward to that. The biggest disappointment was not getting to the Diamondback stadium tour, it was cancelled.

Road Scholar's response:
Thank you for your comment and please note we no longer use the Cottonwood Resort as accommodation on any programs.

We attended the week of March 16-21. There were some fabulous parts and some extremely disappointing parts. All of our speakers were entertaining and informative. The rooms were comfortable and our seats at the games were exceptional except for one game where they were just OK. All of our games were "away" games. The extremely disappointing starts with the meals. They were awful. Repetitive, low quality, boring. Nothing much I wanted to eat repeated how many times? We were supposed to get to go to batting practice. Not only did that not happen, we barely got to the games before they started and in fact missed the first inning of one of the games. Not acceptable. I felt like I got more in touch with what it is like to be in commute traffic in the Phoenix area instead of Spring Training for baseball. I would not do this program again because of the flaws. But...I am really happy we did it for the lectures. A really mixed bag.

Our experience with tours in general is limited and although we have been attending Giants Spring Training for several years, this was our first tour with Road Scholar/Elderhostel. We were impressed by our two casual, but organized, group leaders as well as the interesting presentations on various aspects of baseball. Attending four baseball games in four days was what we came for and the seats were generally better than those we have had since the Giants won the Series in 2010. Accommodations were excellent and walking distance to Giants Stadium. Quality of dinners were sub-standard. All in all we had a great time.

This is a good program. Well run by Scott and Melanie. Four of the five speakers were quite interesting. It was nice that we got to go to other ballparks besides the Giants home field in Scottsdale, although the drives to the other fields were long and tiring. The seats at the games could have been better (too much sun!) and Scott was apologetic about that. It was great being around a large group of people who all shared a common interest in baseball. Go Giants!!!

This was our first Spring Training trip, and we'd definitely recommend it to others. Hotel was great and within walking distance of the Giants Scottsdale Stadium; the speakers were excellent, both informative and entertaining;and the leaders were organized and friendly; and the baseball games were excellent!

Disorganized with several speakers past their prime. Leader disorganized and late for some lectures.

Just returned from Spring Training. Scott and Melanie were awesome leaders! Really enjoyed the speakers and of course the baseball. Not pleased with the tickets for one of the games. Thought you guys learned from last year when people wrote that the seats where in the sun. Guess not? Ticket sales began on January 9th so there really is no excuse for the poor bleacher seats we where given in the sun on the far 3rd base line at one of the games. Thanks to Scott, he informed us early of the problem, and helped us to find seats in the shade. Being Giant's fans we are use to dynamic pricing and know that tickets can be purchased way in advance. We all go to Scottsdale for baseball and Road Scholar does promise in their literature that seats priority will occur when you register for the program? This is not true! Scott and Melanie did a good job of working with the hotel because the dinner meals where terrible. We only ate two nights at the hotel because they where so bad. Didn't like the fact that the wait staff would give you folders for tips as well, at meals. Thought Road Scholars had the policy of no tipping? This became embarrassing as the wait staff ended up giving them only to the people who had previously provided them with tips. Once again Scott and Melanie where outstanding. They went out of their way to accommodate the needs of individuals. Go Giant's

Lively program with plenty to see and do on this Giants Spring Training including four games seen behind home plate. Staff more than accommodating and competent. For baseball fans this program is instructional and fun~~~

My Dad and I thoroughly enjoyed the RS Spring Training program. On this program we were able to see FOUR SF Giants games at two different ball parks, as well as a tour of Chase Field. The program coordinators, Scott and Melanie were top-notch! Thanks for an amazing experience.
