Afternoon: 4:00 pm - Check-in at Stone Lodge and Register with your Group Leader 5:00-6:00 pm - Wine & cheese social to meet and greet fellow participants.

Dinner: 6:00 pm - Dinner in the dining room with your fellow Road Scholars.

Appalachian Culture, 2 Mile Stroll, 2017 Mountains of Music

Activity note: Start the morning with an introduction to Appalachian History and Culture with a local author then enjoy a guided 2 mile stroll on the Lower Jungle Trail around the property. Finish your evening with the 2017 Mountain of Music Homecoming Concert on the Front Lawn. Sponsored by Virginia's Heritage Music Trail, The Crooked Road.

Breakfast: 7:30-9:00 am - Breakfast available in Harvest Dining Room.

Morning: 9:00 -11:30 am - Introduction to Appalachian History and Culture with local author, Michael Abraham.

Lunch: 12:00 pm - Lunch in Harvest dining room.

Afternoon: 1:30 - 4:00 pm - Guided 2-Mile Round Trip Stroll along the Lower Jungle Trail.

Dinner: 6:00 pm - Dinner in Harvest dining room.

Evening: 7:00 pm - 2017 Mountain of Music Homecoming Concert on the Front Lawn (The Crooked Road Homecoming Concert Series)

Activity note: Start the day with an overview of Appalachian Literature. Spend your afternoon learning about the Fiddle and Banjo. Finish your day with Jack Tales around the fire pit.

Morning: 9:00 am-11:30 am - Introduction to Appalachian Literature with Virginia Tech Professor, Steven Mooney.

Lunch: 12:00 pm - Lunch in Harvest dining room.

Afternoon: 1:30 - 4:00 pm - The Fiddle & Banjo: Uniquely American Dance Partners with the McKenzies

Dinner: 6:00 pm - Dinner in Harvest Dining Room

Morning: 9:00 am - 11:30 am - Storytelling and Appalachian Ballads with Alice Kinder.

Evening: 7:30 pm - Songs of the Night Presentation with Jerry Via.

Activity note: The trip to Buckeye Mountain Forge includes breaking up into groups to explore Beekeeping, Banjo making, and the art of the Blacksmith. Make your own Iron wall hook to take home!

Morning: 9:00 am - 11:30 am - Local History and Life in the Mountain with the Martin Family.

Lunch: 12:00 pm - Lunch in Harvest dining room.

Afternoon: 1:30 - 4:00 pm - Visit Buckeye Mountain Forge and Buckeye Banjos.

Dinner: 6:00pm - Dinner in Harvest dining room.

Evening: 7:30 pm - Enjoy a "porch jam" session with local musicians featuring traditional Appalachian music and song with Old Man Kelly.
