A Spectacular River Journey Begins
The Rogue River

Rogue River Campsite

Activity note: Itinerary may vary due to changes in water level, weather, availably camps or other factors. Rapids we expect to encounter on a given morning may not be encountered until afternoon, and canyons we expect to float through in the afternoon of one day may instead be encountered the following morning.

Breakfast: Meal prepared by program staff at campsite along the river.

Morning: After breakfast on day two we will pack up camp, then we will car caravan to Galice Resort (a 10 minute drive) where you will park your vehicle. We will then return by van to Almeda Bar, and after a thorough safety orientation we'll begin our journey downstream. By late morning we come to Rainey Falls. Here with luck we’ll see salmon jumping the Falls. Meanwhile our guides will maneuver the boats through side channels adjacent to the waterfall rapid as you take the short hike around them. Then it is back on the river for more rafting.

Lunch: Meal prepared by program staff at riverside.

Afternoon: The Rogue River canyon through which float is an enchanting blend of lively rapids, lush forests, fern grottoes, abundant wildlife, beautiful sandy beaches, sparkling side streams and clear swimming holes.

Dinner: Meal prepared by program staff at campsite along the river.

Activity note: Each day’s instruction may occur during the day on the river, be scheduled for the time between breakfast and boarding the boats, or occur just before or after dinner. In general, though, the time from arriving at camp until dinner, and after dinner, is mostly free time for hiking, photography, or to otherwise use as you wish.

Breakfast: Meal prepared by program staff at campsite along the river.

Morning: Rafts depart at approximately 9:30 AM. We'll cover about 12 miles of river today, with a stop this morning (time permitting) at historic Winkle Bar, site of western writer Zane Gray's cabin.

Lunch: Meal prepared by program staff at riverside.

Afternoon: Rafting continues, and may include a stop at Battle Bar, one of the sites of the 1855-56 war between local Indians and the US Calvary.

Dinner: Meal prepared by program staff at campsite along the river.

Morning: Optional one mile round trip hike to the Rogue River Ranch, a remote government ranger station and museum of regional artifacts

Rogue River Campsite

Breakfast: Meal prepared by program staff at campsite along the river.

Morning: Today’s stretch of river includes perhaps the river's most dramatic scenery, and without question the river’s most notable whitewater: Mule Creek Canyon rapids and Blossom Bar rapids are class IV thrillers.

Lunch: Meal prepared by program staff at riverside.

Afternoon: After lunch the river’s rapids are less dramatic, but the drama of the Rogue’s spectacular scenery continues.

Dinner: Meal prepared by program staff at campsite along the river.

DAY
6
A relaxing river float followed by a scenic drive
The Rogue River
B,L

Breakfast: Meal prepared by program staff at campsite along the river.

Morning: We depart our final camp at approximately 9:30 AM for a float along the last 7 miles of river. Along the way we'll stop at scenic Flora Dell Creek and waterfall.

Lunch: Meal prepared by program staff at riverside.

Afternoon: We typically arrive the boat ramp at Foster Bar between 1:30 and 3 PM. We’ll then board a van for the ride back to Galice. Van travel back to Galice Resort is a 2 hour trip on a mixed surface road – mostly paved but with some gravel stretches. Route is a winding road, so if you’re particularly susceptible to motion sickness you may want to bring appropriate medication. Program ends upon return to Galice between 4 and 5 PM. (Shuttle van to airport departs immediately thereafter.)
