Meet the Musher's & Their Dogs

Breakfast: Westmark Hotel, Turnagain Room

Morning: Discover the Iditarod and the history of the Iditarod trail through the eyes of a veteran musher.

Lunch: Westmark Hotel, Turnagain Room

Afternoon: Take a short walk to the Alaska Public Lands Information Center. Where you have access to view videos about the Aurora Borealis and Denali National Park's sled dog team, and learn about the geography of Alaska.

Dinner: Westmark Hotel, Turnagain Room

Evening: Meet local mushers and learn about the athlete's of the race.

Breakfast: Westmark Hotel, Turnagain Room

Morning: See the great race through the eyes of an Iditarod Musher as they give a presentation of life in the Great Race!

Lunch: Westmark Hotel, Turnagain Room

Afternoon: Attend musher presentations and book signing from local authors as well as possibly meeting your favorite musher at the Millenium Hotel.

Dinner: Musher's Banquet. Dine with mushers and fellow fans at the selection banquet at the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center

Evening: Attend the banquet and selection drawing of when each musher picks their starting position in the race. An excellent opportunity to meet the mushers.

Breakfast: On your own at a local restaurant

Morning: Presentation on logistics and training techniques with a veteran Iditarod musher.

Lunch: Westmark Hotel, Turnagain Room

Afternoon: While on your own, you have the possibility of visiting and experiencing the history and culture of Alaska Natives at the Alaska Native Heritage Center during Iditarod Day. Arts, crafts, dance presentations, films, language classes and explorations of life-size samples of traditional homes for five distinctive cultures will be available. Or joining in on the many Fur Rondy activities such as the "Blanket Toss".

Dinner: Westmark Hotel, Turnagain Room

Evening: Gather for a private talk given by a visiting musher.

Breakfast: On your own at a local restaurant

Morning: Celebrate the festival atmosphere as downtown comes alive and all of the dog teams gather. The morning of the ceremonial race start in Anchorage provides your first opportunity for close encounters with the teams of endearing and enthusiastic sled dogs whose devotion and determination inspire mushers from around the world to enter this challenging race.

Lunch: In the field

Afternoon: Continue with the festival atmosphere of the Ceremonial Start.

Dinner: Westmark Hotel, Turnagain Arm

Evening: Continue with Fur Rondy and Iditarod festivities

Visit Iditarod Headquarters & the Official Iditarod Start

Activity note: Witness the official start of the "Last Great Race".

Breakfast: Westmark Hotel, Turnagain Room

Morning: Travel to Iditarod Headquarters and Museum in Wasilla, which features a museum, gift shop, sled dog rides, and video viewings. Here you can learn the history of the Iditarod, view trophies and photographs, and actually stand on the Iditarod trail.

Lunch: In the field

Afternoon: Attend the official start of the Iditarod.

Dinner: Enjoy a tasty meal at a popular local restaurant.

Evening: Travel by motorcoach to the historic town of Talkeetna, where you can relax in front of the lodge fireplace and share your experiences from the day.

Morning: Take a motorcoach to Talkeetna, meet a musher, tour the town.

Afternoon: Free time to explore downtown Talkeetna

Dinner: Local restaurant in Talkeetna

Evening: Wrap up and slide show
