Wonderful retreat for self-introspection and developing an understanding of one's connection to the whole universe rather than maintaining an isolationist perception of oneself as a separate entity in the world.

This retreat was a wonderful experience. Having just retired, it served as a perfect transition into the next phase of my life. The redwood forest was magical and the meditation time soothing. The lessons in Yoga and Qigong were just what I was looking for to help me with maintaining flexibility far into the future. The information about aromatherapy and essential oils have opened door for me to explore how these can be a part of my life. This was my first Road Scholar experience and I am looking forward to many more. Next time I will take my husband with me to explore a new part of the world. Thank your such a wonder fun experience!

The overall program is very well balanced with individual participation and onsite learning in an easy going but meaningful way. I enjoyed the peaceful setting which was a perfect foundation for meditation and yoga and Qigong exercises. I highly recommend the program if you are looking for a way to slow down your way of thinking about your own life and the choices you make.

My mother and I really enjoyed attending this program together. We deepened our knowledge of meditation, Qigong, and other rejuvenating practices in a group of interesting and friendly women while in a stunning natural environment while eating the most amazing vegetarian food. Can you ask for more?

You need more easy going programs with less regimentation .

I celebrated my 65th birthday on this trip. It was everything I expected and more. Wonderful classes with a nice change of pace from the hectic, wired and Bluetooth world I usually live in. The vegetarian food was simple and delicious. Everything you need when you need it and nothing more. A philosophy of life and a dip into simplicity.

This retreat provides a really nice mix of activities and is very rejuvenating. I was glad I did it. You will enjoy easy and welcoming opportunities to experience some new things. It is co-ordinated by a lovely person (Briege). It's in a beautiful forest setting. However, be aware the retreat center inhabits a very old resort which is very rustic. The rooms are very basic and the walls are thin. No shampoo or conditioner is provided so be sure to bring some. The food is healthy, but very basic vegetarian fare.

This program exceeded my expectations. Every morning I walk one of the loops and inhaled the clean air. Each presentation was informative and well done exposing me to new ideas and fun in yoga, Qigong, making herb tea and more. Most life changing will probably be the meditation. John is truly gifted. Breige is always there making sure it all runs properly and sharing her own gifts with us. Excellent program and my first adventure solo was a complete success.

This was my first Road Scholar trip. I wanted to "test drive" their organization. I decided to not have any preconceived expectations of the program. So what did I discover? WOW... It was amazing!!! I needed to rejuvenate and balance myself emotionally and physically. This program did both. All of our hosts were amazing people. We had the unexpected pleasure of getting to attend a talk with a visiting Llama from Tibet. I also met some amazing women. Many of whom will become friends. I loved this experience! Well done Road Scholar.

This was a delightful trip that I took my 86 year old mother on (I'm 58). In fact, we were just one of 4 mother-daughter participants in the group of 24. Nice easy pace with a gentle introduction to a wide variety of topics. Comfy, simple accommodations (bring your own shampoo) and delicious vegetarian food. I'm a Vegan and was able to select Vegan from the Vegetarian offerings. I noticed they also accommodated gluten free diets. The evening musical performance and the movie "Kundun" were both interesting and delightful. The itinerary and location were great, but what made this trip special were the fabulous Leader, the interesting presenters, and the fascinating and welcoming participants. Bring comfy clothes for gentle exercise and bring an open mind for experiencing new ideas.

I highly recommend the Road Scholar Land of Medicine Buddha Retreat programs. It exceeded my expectations. The teachers were most welcoming and incisive, the giant redwood trees are outstanding, and the delicious healthy food was restorative and most enjoyable. Important things that deeply matter in the relationship to our surroundings and each other were taught with great detail. Memorable!

This retreat was fun, and educational. We practiced what we were learning about. The Qu Chong, and meditation segments were particularly helpful to my interests in 'rejuvenation.' The vegetarian food was delicious, and very filling, and more than enough. The accommodations were basic, clean, warm enough. The retreat was full of activities - well paced. Advice - take slip on shoes - you will be taking them off regularly when you enter the main lecture/activity room and the meditation hall. Advice - with your shoes (that you will take off) use thick socks or socks with those rubber bumps on the bottom for when you are shoeless in these rooms.

Land of Medicine Buddha has a deeply spiritual feel to it, and the redwood forest in which it nestles is glorious. A unique and wonderful venue for a a rejuvenation retreat. The program director is a lovely, warm, twinkly-eyed, caring and considerate person. Too many different activities packed way too close together with no room to absorb whichever ones pique your interest before having to drop each one to switch gears. Little or no free time to explore the miles of trails through the forest. So if you go, consider adding an extra day for that. The meditation, chi gung and yoga instructors were excellent and those experiences were highlights for me.
