1
Arrive and Check In/Welcome & Orientation

Afternoon: Check in at the Boone Tavern Hotel and Restaurant between 3:00 and 4:00pm. At that time you will receive your arrival packet and updated schedule as well as a name-tag. We will begin orientation at 5:00pm in the Skylight Room located on the first floor of Boone Tavern Hotel. This will be a time for introductions, reviewing the program theme and schedule, discussion on emergency procedures and safety guidlines, and answering any questions you may have.

Dinner: Regional cuisine plated and served in the Main Dining Room, the Historic Boone Tavern Hotel and Restaurant.

2
Begin the day with sessions on the history of Berea College and a student led walk through campus. Afternoon sessions on Appalachian culture with an evening of Traditional Appalachian music.

Activity note: Student led walk through the Berea College Campus. Approximately one hour of walking and standing with a student guide.

Breakfast: Buffet breakfast available between 7:00-8:30 AM in the Main Dining Room, Boone Tavern Hotel.

Morning: One-hour program on Berea College History. Student led walking tour of campus.

Lunch: Buffet lunch available between 12:00-1:00 PM in Main Dining Room, Boone Tavern Hotel.

Afternoon: One hour program on History of the Appalachian region. One hour program on Appalachian Music and Instruments.

Dinner: 5:30 PM Regional cuisine served in the Main Dining Room, Boone Tavern Hotel.

Evening: 7:00-8:00 PM Traditional Appalachian Music performance from Al, Alice, and Ruth.

Presentations about Appalachian Issues and Culture with an evening of dancing by the Berea Festival Dancers.

Morning: One hour session on The History of Coal in Appalachia.

Lunch: Buffet lunch available between 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the Main Dining Room, Boone Tavern Hotel.

Afternoon: One hour presentation on Appalachian Literature and one hour presentation on Appalachian Stereotypes.

Dinner: 5:30 PM Regional cuisine served in the Main Dining Room, Boone Tavern Hotel.

Evening: 7:00-8:00 PM Berea Festival Dancers

4
Start the day off with two sessions on Appalachian Culture. Wind down with the sounds of Traditional Appalachian and Folk tunes performed by local musicians.

Morning: One hour presentation on the Underground Railroad and American Memory and one hour on Methodism and Black Freedom in America.

Afternoon: Free Afternoon to explore the local shops and visit local artisans.

Dinner: 5:30 PM Regional cuisine served in the Main Dining Room of Boone Tavern Hotel.

Evening: 7:00-8:00 PM Appalachian Music.

Craft Making and an afternoon excursion to visit a local artisan. Evening ends with Jammin' on the Front Porch, bring along your instruments and play along with local musicians in a jam session.

Morning: Craft making. Enjoy a hands on experience crafting a Roundtree Broom.

Lunch: Buffet lunch available 12:00-1:00 PM in Main Dining Room, Boone Tavern Hotel.

Afternoon: Afternoon field trip to Tater Knob Pottery. Meet resident potter Sarah Culbreth, her husband Jeff Enge and their son David who take such pride in each piece of pottery that is thrown at Tater Knob Pottery. We will visit their 30 acre farm and watch as they use red clay to make some of the most beautiful and unique pieces of pottery which has earned their national recognition.

Dinner: 5:30 PM Regional cuisine served in the Main Dining Room of Boone Tavern Hotel.

Evening: Hear local musicians sing folk, bluegrass, gospel and other local music while strumming on their favorite instrument on the front porch of the depot in Old Town Berea. Bring your favorite instrument along and join in!
