Activity note: After settling in, enjoy a leisurely stroll around the lake to the dining hall for a cafeteria style meal. Get to know each other through orientation and introduction of the instructors and participants in the Holt Lodge meeting room at 6:30 PM. Then retire to your comfortable accommodations and enjoy a quite nights rest as you prepare for an exciting learning experience.

Afternoon: Stop at administration building for hotel and program registration after 3:00 PM

Dinner: Served 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Evening: Program orientation at 6:30 p.m. In Holt Lodge meeting room. Enjoy meeting fellow students and instructors and learning about the activities for the week.

Activity note: The instructor will introduce the technique of ribbed basketry, outline the projects of the week and work with each student to determine their level of expertise. 4 baskets will be completed starting with Mini Egg Basket – a good beginning basket for new students but a great little basket for all. We will learn the basics of a ribbed basket and the “God’s Eye”.

Breakfast: Cafeteria style. Served in Lakeview dining hall from 7:30-8:15 a.m.

Morning: Class starts at 8:30 a.m. in the Craft Building. Our Basketry Class will begin with the instructor leading introductions and explaining her history with basketry. After demonstrating basic techniques for baskets, we will select a project and gather supplies, the instructor will work one-on-one with each student to begin our first basket.

Lunch: Served cafeteria style at Lakeview dining hall from 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Class continues until 4:30 p.m.

Dinner: Served cafeteria style in Lakeview dining hall from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Evening: Evening entertainment begins at 6:30 pm

Activity note: Students that did not complete the Mini Egg Basket will do so while others may begin on their second ribbed basket. Melon Basket – The size will be a challenge for beginners but will reinforce the “God’s Eye” technique taught in the first basket. This basket reinforces the basic weaving in a ribbed basket. The instructor will hold an Open Studio following dinner for students wishing to continue their work.

Breakfast: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 7:30-8:15 a.m.

Morning: Class begins at 8:30 a.m. with some students completing the basket project from the day before while the instructor will continue to demonstrate techniques and guide us in selecting the supplies we will need t complete our next basket.

Lunch: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Class continues until 4:30 p.m.

Dinner: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Evening: Free time with open studios begin at 6:30 p.m.

Activity note: Continuing with the ribbed weaving the third basket will be the Potato Basket – This basket offers new skills and may be a bit of a challenge. The instructor will do a demonstration of technique and then students will work with a partner to help hold and tie the beginning ribs.

Breakfast: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 7:15-8:30 a.m.

Morning: Class begins at 8:30 a.m.

Lunch: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Class continues until 4:30 p.m.

Dinner: Dinner will be served in Lakeview dining hall from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Evening: We will gather in the Holt Lodge first floor meeting room to get on a bus for a 2 mile ride to Appalachian Distillery. Tasting after tour

Lunch: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Class continues until 4:30 p.m.

Dinner: Served in Lakeview dining hall from 5:00-6:00 pm.

Evening: At 6:30 p.m. we will do a walk through all the classrooms to see the accomplishments of all the students during the week.
