This trip was very worthwhile and the cost was very reasonable. The hotels were very nice. The Rimrock Resort Hotel was extremely nice. I truly enjoyed all of the spectacular scenery of the Rockies. The two day train trip was absolutely worth every penny of the cost of this excursion. Would love to take the train trip again with my grandsons.

This trip was a wonderful surprise! My husband, Larry, always wanted to go on a train trek; I thoughteqch day would be all to similar...not so; this one was a pleasure. Such a great, nicely planned, diverse itinerary with excellent guides. Of course, the attendants are always great traveling partners. Living in Florida, we loved the snow along with the opportunity to wear sweaters, coats, mittens and boots!

This was a once in a lifetime experience! Gold leaf service on the Rocky Mountaineer was incredible! The scenery was fantastic. Everyone owes this trip to themselves. Seeing things you have only heard about is amazing!

Traveling to the Canadian Rockies and on the Rocky Mountaineer was an extraordinary experience. The scenery was spectacular, our group leader was outstanding and our fellow Road Scholars were warm and welcoming!

Being our first trip on Road Scholar, we were impressed with how mature the website is.

Extraordinary adventure. Beautiful and wondrous natural and historical sites. Both mall towns and cities provided multiple opportunities to inteact with the local populace. Scenic vistas from below and on mountains. A train trip par excellent further enhanced the travel portion. Our guide, Andrea, made the trip enjoyable, informative, and fun. She, like the tour itself, was a five star "gem."

Being here in September has allowed us to see the yellows, rust-oranges and deep almost-black reds of the aspens and birch against the dark green of the pines. The mountains have been frosted in snow, showing the layers of rocks in all colors and directions. Occasionally we see a stark white waterfall coming down the mountainside in a ziggy white line. We see virtually no under growth next to the train line except for the occasional downed ash-gray tree. Blasted rock areas in shades of black to white with oranges are interspersed in the cut through of the train tracks.

We just returned from our trip and would give the experience a high rating. We give high rating to our leader, Bill Spiller, who was knowledgeable, soft spoken and tried to optimize our experience. He and the bus driver, Lou, stopped many times to show us a lake or a waterfall. My husband especially enjoyed the lectures. We found it easy to use the freee time as we wanted to and see things not on the list as did others. The hotels were very nice..the airport hotel just fine and the Rimrock and Sutton a treat. The one in Kamloops was clean and run well for rail travelers . After a busy year for us, we were able to see places that heretofore were only words on a page for me and all the heavy lifting of planning were done for us . Another key component was the fellow travelers ..such a nice group of people and all on time for departures.

The itinerary and the vistas were magnificent! Much of the information the local guides gave was repetitive. It seemed as if no one coordinated the info for the lectures/experiences. The Whyte Museum could have been eliminated. I saw no value in visiting that site. The Rocky Mountaineer Gold Leaf experience far exceeded my expectations and was the highlight of the trip! I never ate as many sandwiches in such a concise period of time. Choosing 4 meals the night of the introductions was not beneficial. Each meal that was needed to be ordered could have been done a day or so ahead of time. I felt that some of the staff were not as efficient or engaging as they could have been. Our Group Leader (Rick Seale) was a very nice, fun loving person. However his communication with the group and his bus drivers resulted in much wasted time. Lack of coordination/confirmation of what was included in a restaurant meal resulted in confusion. He did do a very good job salvaging a rainy day for us! Not enough positive comments could be made about Kirsten Schmitten! She was outstanding! I felt that both Susan Carr and Andy Coupland had difficulty interacting with the group. They both were extremely informed in their areas of expertise, but did not generate enthusiasm in the group. I also believe that a day should be added on to the trip to go to Victoria and Butchart Gardens. Our small group did not participate in the last days' activities and instead went on a private tour of Victoria and the Gardens. The staff at the Best Western Port O'Call could not do enough for us. The same with the Rimrock, which was a fascinating hotel with smiling staff! The service at the Sutton Place Hotel was very disappointing. It's a beautiful hotel, but the staff did not clean the rooms in a timely fashion, nor did they interact with the clients. Very few of the staff would say hello. The first day our rooms were cleaned when we were at dinner!

We had a blast living a lifelong dream of a train trip through the Canadian Rockies, with the bonus of actually getting to walk along lakes and trails as well. Even though we live "out west," we experienced places we had never seen before and learned lots.

This program over exceeded my expectations for a first time traveler with road scholar. Craig Oldfield is a outstanding leader and made the trip doubly enjoyable. His wit and knowledge of the area as we traveled made the trip much more personable for us. His ability to adapt to various road conditions enabled us to not lose any time on our trip, by making a slight adjustment in our trip schedule. I am appreciative that he was able to do this so that our group was not delayed by a road accident.

We originally joined this trip for the Rocky Mountaineer experience. It turned out that the other 10 days were extremely informative and inspiring. We came away with a new understanding and appreciation for the wonders of Nature and the Culture of the Canadian Northwest Territory. We plan to return.

Of course, the scenery was beautiful; and RS's preparation and presentation was impeccable. What stood out for me, was the quality of the food on the train. Dinner at Best Western Calgary was meh. Absolutely loved our fellow travelers; and made some good friends.

Other than the hotel in Kamloops, this trip was terrific. The leader, Andrea Sawchuck, was a breath of fresh air - very caring , very organized, very professional yet not intrusive. I particularly enjoyed Banff and the trips around it. Even the day in Calgary was informative and interesting. But, the trip on the Rocky Mountaineer was the highlight (the Gold Service was extraordinary and well worth the extra money), and except for the overnight in Kamloops, particularly the poor hotel and the smoke everywhere, the trip could not have been better. Even Vancouver was neat. A fitting end to the trip.

The Rocky Mountaineer program with Road Scholar was excellent, and I would highly recommend it. The Silver leaf service was awesome, the rail car was roomy, comfortable, and the sights were spectacular. The rest of the program on the coach was fantastic also. great educational speakers, and fun was had by all.

Enjoy the welcome of a Road Scholar guide throughout the trip. Travel through the Rockies in the domed car of the Rocky Mountaineer. Hike with expert guides at Jasper National Park, Yoho/ Moraine Lake, and Banff. Learn history and geology of the area through lectures, museum stops, and commentary en route. Walk on a glacier. Ride a gondola to the summit of Sulfur Mountain. Marvel at waterfalls and turquoise lakes. Enjoy free time with suggestions. Share high tea with your new friends. An unforgettable experience.

An awesome Road Scholar program! We enjoyed literally every minute of this active program surrounded by the remarkable beauty of the Canadian Rockies, Coastal Range, and Vancouver. The accommodations and meals from Calgary to Banff and Jasper to Vancouver were top-notch; our guide and the local guides/presenters were terrific; and the participants were great fun to travel with. The trip exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended!

1st class train travel in the Rockies with extraordinary people and Program Coordinator, Sarah didn't miss a beat, exceedingly helpful, a delight as a person and resource, good hearted, and exceptionally smart and experimental in her own life -- contagious qualities. She even did some early morning exercises on the train aisle. She is also beautiful.

If you have enjoyed riding in trains at any time in your life, and you like the idea of beautiful scenery while you enjoy lovely meals served by cheerful young people, this is the vacation for you! The Rocky Mountaineer is the peak experience of this trip, as long as you get up now and then and walk the aisles.

This trip was so interesting and amazing. I saw such beautiful mountain scenery, including waterfalls, glaciers, and a variety of animals. The lodgings were great and the instructors were also very good. The highlight of the trip for me was the ride on the Rocky Mountaineer train. It was fabulous! The crew were so attentive and engaging. The scenery was spectacular. This trip doesn't disappoint.

This was my 9th Road Scholar trip, and the food and accommodations on this trip were the best. I particularly liked the unique aspects of this trip - two days on the Rocky Mountaineer Railroad and the ability to get close and personal with a glacier.

We took the Rockies by Rail: Western Canada Splendor trip. This was our first group tour, though it was with a group we already new, and we loved it. Our tour leader (Susan Carr) was excellent, as were the four specialist/lecturers on the trip. The trip was more expensive that most travel we've done, but we got a lot for our money. Highly recommended.
