Visit to VINS, Hands-on Animal Programs, Evening Storytelling Program

Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel dining room

Morning: Field trip by bus to the Vermont Institute of Natural Science. The morning starts with a guided Sensory Awareness hike led by our VINS educator. Enjoy a live bird program with VINS trainers and ornithologists.

Lunch: Bag lunch on location at Vermont Institute of Natural Science.

Afternoon: The afternoon features a hands-on program with the educator about Cold-Blooded Critters. Then there will be time to tour the grounds and see cool rare birds such as hawks, vultures, ravens, owls, and bald eagles. Upon our return to the hotel, we'll wade in the White River in the late afternoon.

Dinner: Dinner in hotel dining room.

Evening: Discover hidden stories in the allegorical mural that graces the hotel’s Vermont Room. It was painted in 1950 by Peter Michael Gish, a graduate of Dartmouth College who later gained a national reputation for his work. The mural was inspired by the teachings of Dartmouth philosopher Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy (1888-1973).

Return to VINs, Boat Building, Aquatic Ecosystem Study, Bear Program

Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel dining room.

Morning: We'll return to VINS for a science program, Design and Build: Sail Away. This engaging, interactive activity builds skills in engineering and design. Using a variety of materials, participants are challenged to make a boat that can carry their mini passenger to safety. Then, our VINS educator will lead a field trip to the nearby Ottauquechee River to study the habitat and discover the critters large and small that call a river home. We'll also learn to identify indicator species and determine the overall health of the river.

Lunch: Picnic lunch at Billings Farm and Museum.

Afternoon: After lunch we'll visit the grounds of the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Site in Woodstock, Vermont, and take a gentle hike on Mt. Tom. Late afternoon wading in the White River is an option.

Dinner: Dinner in the hotel dining room.

Evening: Our educator will join us at the hotel to present a nature program on bears. We'll look at teeth, fur, claws, and the mystery of hibernation.

Lyman Point Park, Montshire Museum, Moose Program

Morning: The morning will feature age-appropriate games at Lyman Point Park on the White River. Then we'll have a field trip to the Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, VT, which features three floors full of fascinating interactive exhibits, plus an outdoor water park.

Lunch: Lunch in the hotel dining room.

Afternoon: Tubing on the shallow, warm, lazy-running White River, then the rest of the afternoon is free time.

Dinner: Dinner at the hotel.

Evening: Nature program on moose at the hotel.

Cedar Circle Farm, Canoe on the Connecticut River, Cookout Dinner

Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel dining room.

Morning: We'll take a short bus ride to Cedar Circle Farm and Education Center on the Connecticut River. Cedar Circle is a certified organic vegetable, berry, and flower farm with an active education program. We'll have a guided tour.

Lunch: Picnic lunch at Cedar Circle Farm.

Afternoon: After lunch we'll get into canoes and head down the Connecticut River a ways, accompanied by an experienced guide. We won't paddle all the way back to White River Junction—we'll put in downriver, have the canoes loaded onto a trailer, and take a short tour of the Dartmouth College campus before heading back to the hotel

Dinner: This lovely day wraps up with an evening cookout in a picturesque meadow up in the hills.
