At a Glance

As we approach the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, we invite you to join us for a free lecture on the history of the World Trade Center. Architecture expert and native New Yorker, John Kriskiewicz, will take us through the World Trade Center complex, including the Twin Towers, starting with its conception in 1958. He’ll discuss the impetus for the project — an attempt to bring new vitality to Lower Manhattan — and lead us through some of the most turbulent decades in New York City’s recent history. The story of the World Trade Center encompasses power brokers, city planners, architects, engineers, thousands of construction workers and 50,000 tenants and visitors. Through vintage renderings and construction images, discover how the World Trade Center was imagined for the Mid-20th Century, and then reimagined for the 21st.
