At a Glance

After Japan’s defeat in August 1945, Soviet troops entered the north of Korea, while U.S. troops entered the south. In December 1945, the three victorious allies of the Second World War decided to rule Korea as a trust territory, dividing Korea into north and south along the 38th parallel, with the U.S.S.R. and the U.S. being given the authority to oversee each part respectively. This lecture will present the long lasting struggle of these two nations to co-exist between conflict and peacemaking ever since.
