Back by popular demand! Our art-expert, Donna Granata, will reprise her presentation on the history of the Pageant of the Masters, with a behind-the-scenes-view of how the “tableaux vivants”, where real people recreate faithful likenesses of famous art works, are produced. Treat your eyes to the living art of The Pageant of the Masters, a summer-time spectacle that has been sparkling under the Southern California stars for generations. A key component of Laguna Beach’s annual Festival of Arts, audiences have packed the amphitheater since 1932. The stage brings art to life with intricate sets, sophisticated lighting, live narration, an original score played by a professional orchestra, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers. Among the highlights of this online presentation are objects featured in former pageants. Once you know about The Pageant of the Masters, you’ll want to add it to your “bucket list”. For those that know about it, you will gain a deeper appreciation for this one-of-a-kind event.

General Notes

Your online lecture will take place live over the course of 1-2 hours. All times are listed in the EASTERN time zone. If you live in a different time zone, please adjust your schedule accordingly. This live online experience uses Zoom Webinar, an easy-to-use web video service that includes closed captioning. All you need is an Internet connection and your computer. You will receive a confirmation email when you enroll and a reminder email one week, one day, as well as the morning of the event with a link and instructions on how to tune in. You will not be pictured on screen during the lecture, but you will have the opportunity to ask questions to the instructor live using the Q&A box. Unless otherwise noted in the lecture description, all those who enroll in this program can attend the live event and will also receive a recording of the lecture that you can watch any time within two weeks following the live event.

The Pageant of the Masters online lecture was so interesting, and to see the incredible behind-the-scenes work to create this production made the experience of actually seeing the show that much richer.
