Getting in/out of a van. Sailing approximately 3 hours in the morning. Some walking and standing at museum.
At the hotel, we'll select from a menu that includes eggs, pancakes, French toast, breakfast meats, juice, cereal, milk, coffee, tea.
We'll board our van and take a short ride to the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center. Here we will meet our instructors for the week. We will have an orientation where we will learn about our keelboats. Learn the basic sailboat parts‚ points of sail‚ basic sail trim‚ some essential knots‚ tacking‚ gybing‚ and more. If you have never experienced big-boat sailing or enjoy the more relaxed side of the sport, then keelboats are the right boat for you. We will be in a large boat with two adults, two children, and an instructor, all learning how to sail together.
At the lake, we'll have box lunches with a choice of sandwich, chips, fruit, cookie, and water.
About a 15 minute walk from the sailing center is ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain. We'll visit this innovative science and nature museum located on the Burlington waterfront. It is home to more than 70 species of fish, amphibians, invertebrates, and reptiles, and more. We will enjoy a special program for our Road Scholar group. We'll then return to the hotel with some time to relax before dinner.
Dinner this evening will be served at a local restaurant within walking distance from the hotel. We will choose from a limited menu with a salad, entree, dessert, coffee, tea, water; additional beverages available for purchase.
Following dinner, we'll return to the hotel for a showing of the movie 'Safe Harbor.'
