At the hotel, the breakfast buffet offers a variety of choices such as eggs, bacon, sausages, hash brown, tomatoes, mushrooms, make-your-own muesli, cereals, pastries, toast, milk, fruit juices, coffee, tea, water.
We’ll board a motorcoach and ride south for a docent-led field trip to the Palace of Westminster. This iconic mid-19th century Gothic Revival building is better known as the Houses of Parliament, as it is the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords which together comprise the UK’s Parliament. As we explore its halls and chambers we’ll learn about the intricacies of British parliamentary democracy, the relationship between Parliament and the monarchy, and the history of the building and the institution.
This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions.
We will continue by motorcoach to Grosvenor Square in Mayfair, where the American Embassy stood until 2018. We’ll then take a walk with our local expert in the footsteps of Americans in the Second World War. Exemplifying the “Special Relationship” between the UK and the U.S., we will see statues of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and General Dwight D. Eisenhower, who set up his military headquarters here, earning it the nickname Eisenhower Platz. We will also see the September 11 Memorial Garden. We’ll return to the hotel by motorcoach after our field trips.
