Getting on/off a mini-bus. About 1 hour driving time. Single-track footpath. No extreme sections. Single-track footpath on compacted earth; some sections may have erratic rock (rock broken away and embedded in path). Some portions have rudimentary wooden stairs.
We will have a buffet at the hotel in a private room, choosing from a selection of eggs, Belgian waffles, bacon, fresh fruit, pastries, breads and cereals, yogurt, juice, coffee, tea.
After checking out of the hotel, we will board a mini-bus and transfer to the trailhead, with our luggage following behind in a cargo trailer. We will hike the Iroquoia section of the Bruce trail, known for its abundant waterfalls, with our Group Leader. More than 100 waterfalls on the trail make Hamilton the “Waterfall Capital of the World.” We will hike along a portion of the Bruce Trail — Canada's longest footpath — from the Dundas Valley to Chedoke Radial Trail. As we hike, we will be on the lookout for exceptional aspects of nature and natural science including flora and fauna, and geological formations. The Bruce Trail runs along the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere. From UNESCO: “The biosphere is all of the land, water and atmosphere that support life. A ‘biosphere reserve’ is an international designation of recognition…for an area in the world that is deemed to demonstrate a balanced relationship between humans and the biosphere. By this is meant that collaborative efforts among people in the designated area serve to promote the sustainability of local economies and communities, as well as the conservation of the terrestrial/or coastal ecosystems they are in.”
At a scenic spot along the trail, we will have boxed lunches, including sandwiches/wraps, water, juice, fruit, pastry.
We will continue our hiking field trip. At the ending point, we will take a mini-bus to our hotel and check in.
At the Olde School House Restaurant, we will have a plated and served meal from a set menu. Coffee, tea, water included. Other beverages available for purchase.
At leisure. Rest up for the next day.
