Getting on/off a 15-passenger shuttle. Hiking 1 mile in the morning. Getting on/off a jet boat; riding about 5 hours total up/down river with dinner break.
At the Empire Café.
We'll head out to the Cape Blanco Lighthouse and hike nearby trails. Pictures cannot capture the majestic view of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding terrain from the second farthest western point of the continental United States, so do not miss out!
We will have a picnic spread at Humbug Mountain State Park. Feel free to take a seat at a picnic table or under a Myrtlewood tree as you eat your lunch!
Jump on board! We will ride on the world famous Jerry's Jet Boats as we go 32 miles up the Rogue River. The ride will be narrated by knowledgeable navigators as we hope to spot ospreys, bald eagles, black bears, and other wildlife! Be sure to wear layers, caps, and gloves. Bring binoculars and cameras in protective containers so they do not get wet. Hang on tight and have a great experience!
Dinner will be at Cougar Lane, a barbecue restaurant in Agness, Oregon next to the Rogue River. There, we'll choose from the menu of sandwiches and pit meals as well as vegetarian options. All meals include baked beans, cole slaw, and dessert; beverage options of soda, lemonade, coffee, tea, water.
Our group will hop back onto Jerry's Jet Boats and go back up the Rogue River, completing the other half of our 64-mile trip! We hope to spot otters, blue herons, jumping fish, and more wildlife! Once back on the dock, we will board the bus around 8:00 p.m. By the end of the day, you will be tired, sometimes cold, but very happy! We will get back to campus around 10:00 p.m.
