Activity note: This is a post-program extension to the main program 23520. Getting on/off a motorcoach with 4-5 steps up/down. The drive from the Port of Genoa is approximately 130 miles and will take around 2 hours.
Afternoon: Transfer to program hotel. Check-in is available from 3:00 p.m. Settle into your room, explore the hotel's lush grounds and private beach, or enjoy a cocktail in the bar with views of Lake Maggiore.
Dinner: At the hotel restaurant.
Evening: At leisure.
Activity note: Getting on/off a motorcoach with 4-5 steps up/down. The drive from the hotel to Orta San Giulio is approximately 18 miles and will take around 40 minutes. Walking up to 3 miles over varied terrain in the pedestrian-only zone and boarding the ferry.
Breakfast: Hotel buffet breakfast.
Morning: This morning we'll board our motorcoach and drive to Orta San Giulio, one of the most picturesque villages of Northern Italy. Once you get off the coach, you’ll be walking downhill to the car-free medieval heart of Orta San Giulio on the lakeshore (ride by trolley train available). You will enjoy a short guided walk around the winding streets until you arrive at the main square to board the public ferry to the tiny St Giulio’s island. The island itself is dominated by the quiet community of nuns that live here, shut away from the outside world in almost total silence within the walls of their convent. You will be able to visit the charming Basilica San Giulio and take a stroll around the exterior of the convent along the charming cobbled streets and by the waterfront. After we return by ferry to the mainland our coach will return us to the hotel where the rest of the day is at leisure.
Lunch: on your own to enjoy what you like.
Afternoon: This afternoon will be at leisure.
Dinner: On your own to enjoy what you like.
Activity note: Walking up to 3 miles over varied terrain. Boarding a small boat for travel over the lake to the islands.
Breakfast: Hotel buffet breakfast.
Morning: Meeting with the local expert at the hotel lobby and departure by private boat. The first stop will be Isola Madre, the largest of the Borromeo Islands and home to one of the area’s most impressive botanical collections. Here you will be able to tour the English-style park with your local expert and admire the wonderful collections of plants.They will lead you through the rooms of the island’s 16th-century palazzo, however it is the gardens that are the real highlight here. Next, you will head to the stunning island of Isola Bella complete with a beautiful Baroque palace and grand formal gardens. Your final stop is the Isola dei Pescatori which literally means fisherman’s island. This is the only island inhabited throughout the year and is home to a small fishing community. Here you will enjoy an expert-led walk through the cobbled alleyways explaining the history of this charming hamlet.
Lunch: at a local restaurant on Isola dei Pescatori.
Afternoon: At leisure.
Dinner: At a local restaurant.
Evening: At leisure to prepare for departure in the morning.

Breakfast: Hotel breakfast depending on departure time. This concludes our program.
