We’ll travel by vans to the origin of Colorado’s gold rush: Clear Creek canyon and the old mining town of Idaho Springs, where we will visit Argo Mill and Tunnel. Our guided walk will take us into the past, explaining the origins of the 125-year old tunnel, demonstrating the use of mining equipment, and browsing the myriad of artifacts from the mining days. We’ll finish up the morning with the opportunity to pan for gold, keeping what we find!
We’ll have a lunch in Idaho Springs at a popular local Pizza Restaurant.
We’ll travel by vans to the raft put-in location on Clear Creek, whose origins start high in the Rockies, where we will meet our local rafting experts for a safety and technique orientation. We’ll then climb into our rafts and set out on a beautiful river adventure. We’ll experience the excitement of the Clear Creek Canyon as we raft through a rugged valley and through many small historic mining areas, including the former gold mining boomtown of Idaho Springs. We will return to the motel before setting out for dinner.
We will dine tonight at a local restaurant with plated choices, coffee, tea, soft drinks, water included; other beverages available for purchase.
