Check-in, Orientation, Facility Tour

Afternoon: Check-in is 3:30pm. At the front desk, receive your Road Scholar packet with your itinerary and get settled in to your room.

Dinner: Enjoy a hot meal after a long day of travel. Our buffet includes a hot and cold line with both healthy and savory choices. Assorted beverages including soft drinks, milk, juices, tea, coffee. Assorted desserts.

Evening: Tour the campus of Trout Lodge and Camp Lakewood. Learn a little about the history of the YMCA and how we go the name Trout Lodge.

Dutch Oven Breakfast, Meet the herd, Western Riding

Activity note: For the entire week, please wear sturdy riding shoes, pants, and a hat if you choose.

Breakfast: Enjoy a Cowboy Style Dutch Oven Breakfast. Includes choices such as egg casserole, biscuits, and hot coffee, hot chocolate, or juice.

Morning: Refresh yourself on the basics of animal science, equine behavior. Learn horse colors and markings, breeds, etc. Meet the herd at Triangle Y Ranch, and receive your horse assignment for the week.

Lunch: Our buffet includes a hot line and salad bar with both healthy and savory choices. Assorted beverages including soft drinks, milk, juices, tea, coffee. Assorted desserts.

Afternoon: Mount up for an arena lesson in Western riding style. Go over the basics and work on posting in a trot, etc. Afterwards, take a hayride through a pasture where the horses are turned after a day's work. Watch as they travel right past the wagon out to pasture for the evening.

Dinner: Our buffet includes a hot line and salad bar with both healthy and savory choices. Assorted beverages including soft drinks, milk, juices, tea, coffee. Assorted desserts.

Evening: Enjoy the autumn evening by the campfire, reflect on some Cowboy Poetry and wisdom.

Morning: Groom and saddle your horse. Mount up for a 4 mile trail ride through the forests and enjoy a picnic lunch on the Ozarks bluffs overlooking Sunnen Lake.

Lunch: A picnic lunch out on the trail that will include deli choices, vegetarian choices, chips, a cookie and a water.

Afternoon: Return from the bluff trail ride, unsaddle and turn out the horses for the evening.

Dinner: Our buffet includes a hot line and salad bar with both healthy and savory choices. Assorted beverages including soft drinks, milk, juices, tea, coffee. Assorted desserts.

Evening: Campfire with S'mores is mandatory for a program at Trout Lodge! There may be some more cowboy wisdom as well.

Morning: Groom and Saddle your horse. Enjoy a 3 mile trail ride along the far side of the lake with beautiful views.

Lunch: Our buffet includes a hot line and salad bar with both healthy and savory choices. Assorted beverages including soft drinks, milk, juices, tea, coffee. Assorted desserts.

Afternoon: Head back into the arena to learn barrel racing patterns, basic jumping knowledge, continue to refine your western skills.

Dinner: Our buffet includes a hot line and salad bar with both healthy and savory choices. Assorted beverages including soft drinks, milk, juices, tea, coffee. Assorted desserts.

Evening: Enjoy a farrier demonstration at the barn as one of the horses receives shoes. Afterwards, kick up some dust with some line dances at the barn dance!

Morning: Head into the arena for one last lesson to learn the basics of English riding style and bareback riding.

Lunch: Our buffet includes a hot line and salad bar with both healthy and savory choices. Assorted beverages including soft drinks, milk, juices, tea, coffee. Assorted desserts.

Afternoon: Learn about the Missouri Fox Trotter, our state horse and see a gaited horse demonstration. Enjoy one last herd view hayride to see your new friends out to pasture after the week together.

Dinner: Enjoy a Dutch Oven cooked dinner that includes an amazing dessert called Dump Cake!

Program concludes, see the herd come in, pictures, goodbyes.

Morning: Enjoy visiting with the herd for one last morning, take pictures with your horse, closing ceremonies. Check out is at 11:00am.

Lunch: Thank you so much for joining us this week! We invite our participants to stay for lunch and enjoy the afternoon at the lodge if you desire. Best to you in all you do!
