This is one of the best Road Scholar programs I have attended. From beginning to end, the leaders were outstanding in their roles and took care of unexpected situations as they occurred. I highly recommend the program.

it was a wonderful trip. Brian, our instructor was very interesting and arranged interesting trips to different places of worship. It was a wonderful history lesson as well as presentations on different religions. Highly recommended.

This was an absolutely wonderful experience. I know this was the first time it was offered but I hope it won’t be the last. The price for what we received was extremely reasonable and probably lower than comparable programs. However, I doubt you could find any other program as of good a quality as this one. I cannot imagine how anyone could offer a better program than we had with Brian Carwana and Rick Kohler had the program running like a well-oiled machine at all times even when the expected occurred. The amount of information given by Mr. Carwana was outstanding to the point of being unbelievable that anyone could know so much about such a topic and be able to present it as well as he did. Road Scholar is very fortunate to have such a person available to them for this program.

The content leader Brian Carwana was outstanding. He provided classes and visits (temples, gurdwana, church) that made the study of world religions understandable and meaningful. The program was well organized. I highly recommend it. .

Fantastic trip. It's about half presentations by one person, usually a recipe for boredom. But the speaker is fantastic, both at assembling ideas and at presenting them. I didn't want him to stop! And the field trips were great. We visited about a dozen religious sites and talked to many religious leaders. Some we visited during "quiet hours" and at others we got to attend partial or entire services. We meditated at a Zen temple, witnessed millenia-old rituals at a Hindu temple, and ate with hundreds of other people at a Sikh temple. At the Jewish sabbath service, we were lucky enough to witness a Bat Mitzvah. The trip was heart-and-mind opening, and I hope to be contemplating it and its reverberations for many months to come.

The instructor approached comparative religion with a combination of enthusiasm, humor, intelligence, directness, tact, and humility - and made it seem like the natural approach to the topic. Everything in the program description is there and handled very well - but that's just the beginning. The classroom parts of the program were enjoyable, packed with information and sometimes surprising. And I didn't anticipate all the delightful characters and myriad sensations that came as part of the experience outside the classroom. This trip is new to Road Scholar but benefits from decades of experience and relationships cultivated by the Encounter World Religions Centre. It also benefited from the extensive travels, experience and warm personalities of the group leaders chosen by Road Scholar.

Toronto is truly the centre of the universe! Brian Carwana took us (Roads Scholars) on an excursion through the myriad pathways of religion. Approaching our hotel on arrival opened my eyes to the intense multiculturalism of Toronto. Brian’s course would be the real deal! And it was... The first evening, Brian easily stepped into the role of our dynamic guide to the religions of the world. His knowledge, humour, and personal relationships with the religious leaders we visited, enriched us. Brian taught me the history and philosophy and enabled me to feel the religions. This course is scholarly and sociological. I highly recommend it. Diana, Mallorytown, Ontario Canada

Brian Carwana, program lecturer and leader, is a rare individual who can combine a classroom lecture and a field trip to a place of worship for each o 7 major religions and keep everyone thoroughly engaged. Not to be missed!

I couldn't have asked for a better experience learning about this subject. I came home with a shifted perspective.

The Encounter World Religions program is well worth consideration. The presenter, Brian Carwana, was able to give us a thorough overview of 7 religions in such an engaging way the time seemed to fly by. Then the field trips to relevant houses of worship were so meaningful. I learned so much, and am encouraged for further study. I would take this course again and have been encouraging many friends to check it out.

This is program that no one should miss. It has a marvelous instructor who keeps the balance in information about all of the religions. Don't miss it -- and sign up early because it is sure to become a popular program.

This experience was amazing. I can't say enough about instructor Brian Carwana's depth of knowledge, his ability to share it in a relaxed manner, and his contacts within the faith communiites that made our field trips so special. The "others" don't seem so different now. I just want Part 2 so that I can learn about the other religions we didn't have time to cover.

this program exceeded my expectations. The teacher, Brian, was extremly knowledgable, shared his knowledge and opinions in a very helpful and undersandable way with warmth and humor. Many of us talked about wanting to have a part 2. the combination of teaching and then going to the places of worship that had been discussed was fantastic. We had the opportunity, because of Brian, to meet with the leaders of many of these congregations. I would definitely recommend this.
