Hike 2-3 miles over uneven terrain with an elevation gain of 400-600 feet to explore diverse plant communities. 1.5 hours in a vehicle.
At the Teton Science Schools Dining Lodge, we will enjoy a breakfast buffet offering rotating choices such an egg dish, breakfast meat, cereals (hot/cold), fresh fruit; coffee, tea, water, juice included.
After a quick visit to the Teton Science Schools outfitting building, to make sure everyone is prepared for the week ahead, we will drive to Grand Teton National Park for our first hike. Today's 2-3 mile hike will bring us through a series of habitats at the base of the Teton mountain range. Along the way, we’ll learn about the natural forces that shape this iconic mountain range and valley, as well as the human forces that have struggled to preserve it.
At a scenic location along the trail, we will enjoy a packed field lunch. We will make our own lunches in the morning with sandwich and salad options.
Upon completion of our hike, we will head to the Craig Thomas Discovery Center in Grand Teton National Park to learn more about the natural and cultural history of the park. Especially for Kids: Enjoy an educational program with a park ranger. We will then return to the campus for free time and dinner. We will then return to the campus for free time and dinner.

Especially for Kids: After dinner, we’ll get ready for the Camping Olympics! We will practice setting up the Teton Science Schools tents, packing gear, and preparing ourselves for the adventures of camping in Yellowstone. We'll also learn about Leave No Trace, and how to minimize our impact while recreating outdoors.
